"Excellent work! At least 1/3 of my roof on the north side had a great deal of moss on it. On much of the rest of the roof there were small amounts of moss along the bottom edge of shingles, and there were patches in scattered places on the main part of the shingles. After Hector and his son cleaned the roof, it looked brand new. They removed plants and furniture from our deck before the job and replaced them after the job. They even did a light washing of the vinyl siding of the house, which was outside the agreed-upon scope of work, but they did not charge me for it. As a former member of a site safety office in a then-Fortune 50 company, I was particularly impressed with the excellent precautions they took to insure their safety on the roof during the job. Hector’s 27+ years of experience was evident in every aspect of the job. I plan to bring him back in a year for annual maintenance. I definitely recommend No More Dirty Roofs to any home owner needing roof cleaning."

"We recently hired Tough Builders to step in and save our home renovation project. Some projects we started but we were not able to finish, like cabinet installation. Others had mistakes that needed correcting, such as LVP flooring, while some, like installing a vanity, we hadn’t tackled at all. Just a few days after reaching out to Tough Builders, they visited our home to provide a quote. During the walkthrough, they took the time to understand our vision and reassured us that they could handle everything with ease. Their confidence, professionalism, and clear explanations immediately impressed us. We quickly decided to hire them, and within a week, they got started. The entire renovation took about a week, during which they efficiently completed multiple projects while maintaining excellent communication. Anytime we had a question or concern, they addressed it promptly. What amazed us most was their ability to fix our previous mistakes—you’d never know we had attempted (and failed at) several of these projects ourselves. With more renovations planned in the coming months, Tough Builders will be our first call. Not once did we feel taken advantage of, and their honesty, craftsmanship, and professionalism are truly rare. We cannot recommend them highly enough!"

"Working with MasterShield was a complete pleasant and happy experience. We looked at other contractors along with MasterShield, and none were comparable, professional, courteous, or prompt as MasterShield. Tom was on point for every discussion: he continually reviewed the project, swiftly answered emails, worked on the weekends as necessary, and completed the job to our satisfaction. If there was a detail we needed corrected, Tom immediately had his crew fix it. They re-hung our gutters for better water collection and replaced all the wood trim with composite material everywhere on the outside of the house. We are extremely pleased with the end result. Tom also stands by his work, so if we see a problem down the road, MasterShield will take care of it. Quite a few houses in our neighborhood are nearing end-game with roofs and gutters - we absolutely recommend MasterShield to any prospective homeowner. We are very happy customers - thank you, MasterShield!"

"Pro: The house has a new roof. Cons: 1) Business owner expected to be paid two hours before job was finished and was impatient with my desire to pay when job was complete. 2) Ridge vent ends at least one foot from either end of roof. I was not consulted. Looks strange--different from other houses I've had roofed, where ridge vent spanned the whole ridge. 3) Crew knocked down furnace chimney as I requested then business owner directed them to construct 6-foot gas vent atop house that looked like nuclear cooling tower. Objected to my request to lower it, but finally did. This was the last task completed and crew did not securely attach the cap to top of the vent. I asked how many of these gas vents they had installed, and they said this was the first one."

".They showed when they said they would and cleaned everything up.  It looks good.  I think they provide their customers with thicker/stronger boards to sit on while in the shelter.  I also think the shelters should come at least 5.5 to 6 feet tall.  Most families have at least one family member or friend that is over 5 feet tall.  If we have to stay in it for a hour to several hours, we need to be able to stand up.  They were careful with the equipment and quick.  I recommend you look for any cracks in your garage around where they will be installing the shelter and driveway, so if you see any cracks once they are finished you can have them fix it.  I also recommend that you tell your neighbors that you will be having a shelter installed and ask if they can move their vehicles out of the street.  Ground Zero has a very long trailer they pull their equipment on and they need room to turn around on/in the street. <br />"

"S&K did an excellent job. Remodeled kitchen and powder room, replaced windows (including matching stain), replaced two exterior doors. Quality of work was great and they left my house in clean condition when they were done. As issues were identified, they provided good communications and successfully resolved all challenges, without any increases in price. I will definitely use them again."

"We live on a hill, with a set of steps to navigate the front yard, that end in a landing at the bottom. They were destroyed in an accident. Steve and his crew at SS Creative were the contractor I selected to repair the work. They did an excellent job matching the new construction to the old construction. Although I didn't expect it, they finished the job on Christmas Eve! I intend to call them for future projects. Excellent craftsmanship!"

"The installation went very well. The company sent a very articulate and extremely knowledgeable representative (Brian) to scope out the work prior to the scheduled installation. The flow of the conversation put me immediately at ease since the work was being done in my newly built home. Brian informed me up front that the work may result in an extra cut or two in the drywall which would result in additional cost to repair (not good news at all, but at least he told me up front!). Brian then took the time to explore various options with me (as I was looking to avoid extra cuts and extra costs) and we came up with a solution that was free of extra cuts and extra cost. <br /> When the two technicians came out a week or so later, they were prompt, professional and took the time to ensure I understood what was to be done and how. The company was 3 for 3 in sending men who were kind enough to indulge my questions. The two gentleman were just as considerate as Brian and it was extremely cool being informed by the two installers with the same conversational flow and consideration as Brian. It seemed important to all 3 representatives that I clearly understood and was in agreement with the work to be done. So very awesome!!! <br /> In addition to the technicians, the women in the office were kind, funny, and professional. Service matters to the folk at Walls Electrical. I would use them again in a minute!!!"

"Owner Ricky Stroup was infinitely patient with us, as after our initial meeting it took us over a year to hire his company to do this work. During that year, we had multiple conversations with him regarding the scope of our project, and he was as willing to contract the scope as to expand it. He wrote several proposals for us, so we could see the financial impacts of our different scope options. Our indecision on scope, and delay in scheduling, never caused any frustration or ill will on his part. Mr. Stroup was helpful, friendly, and patient throughout! His team installed everything in one day, and all who worked on our project were extremely courteous and professional. We have been very impressed with the quality of the work. Working with Gutter Glove of North Carolina was an enjoyable experience, and I recommend this company!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Abingdon, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
