"Mel was exceptionally responsive after the recent wind storm. He came out and did emergency repairs on the roof, and then provided a written estimate for replacement of the entire roof. His prices are fair and reasonable and he provides a high quality of service. Highly recommend."

"He was very responsive to our request for a specific time to meet for the evaluation. He came to do the work promptly. Unfortunately, after his repair, the leak continued. He came back and worked on the vent above the skylight. That repair appears to have solved the problem. <br />"

"Signature Roofing, Chris the owner and his roofing crew were a real gem to hire in September 2013. We have re- roofed a previous home and built a new home in Anchorage, so we are not new to hiring contractors and how to get the best outcome. We used Angie's List as part of our due diligence to find additional contractor names and feedback. This is where we discovered Signature Roofing. Signature was a lower bid compared to 3-4 others. The commercial insurance was in place and legal research showed a clean record in the courts. The Better Business Bureau research also showed no concerns. Chris and crew knew the trade very well. They showed up as scheduled during a very high demand time of year (in the Fall when people start to panic end-of-season). The quality of work was top-notch. We wish we had considered Signature for previous and much larger projects, believing the outcome would be great. <br />"

"On time. Owner here all the time, and working alongside. Half day to strip and most of a day to lay down the new roof. Cleaned the debris thoroughly, Protected what needed to be protected. No damage. Put in roof peak vent (which hadn't been installed previously, put drip rail everywhere which hadn't been installed originally. Choice of shingle quality and price with honest information on the differences and no pressure as to price. We bought and quot;Alaskanand quot; grade shingles. <br /> Dan Jones (the owner) was on the job each day and worked alongside the crew. <br /> Tracy Jones is a joy to talk to in the office, and can answer any question pertaining to rooves/roofs. She cannot answer and quot; What is the meaning of Life?and quot; But shingle weights and how many squares she knows. <br /> It has been a year and we are still happy with outcome. <br /> Premier Roofing (the Jones) are highly recommended by us. <br />"

"It's hard to know how to rate this company. They replaced our roof a few years ago, and although the owner was contemptuous of us, seemed to have anger issues with his employees, and communicated poorly, the work was done neatly, on time, on budget, and seemingly very well. During unusual weather in 2021, water intrusion problems developed that may have been related to unique roof vent installation when they did the work. We made a friendly request for them to come back ON A PAYING BASIS to evaluate and see if they could fix the problem. This led to a bizarre explosion from the owner and an angry refusal to assist."

"This was an excellent experience.  I called for an estimate on Friday afternoon of Easter weekend and Mr. Wiker was at my house less than two hours later.  He picked up the materials the next morning and finished the job early the next day.  In addition to replacing the missing shakes, Mr. Wiker and his coworker spent a lot of time stapling down loose shakes over the entire roof.  When I mentioned that I was getting wind noise from a roof vent, they worked on it right then and there, even though it wasn't in the original scope of the project. <br /> This is my new go-to company for roof work.  When it comes time to replace my roof, I'm going to get Wiker roofing to do it.  These guys take great pride in their work. <br />"

"It took a short while until we could get the contract specifications onto paper that we all agreed to and understood, but after this minor glitch everything worked out exceptionally well. Chad Hansen and his wife Sandra Smart are honest, hard working people who employ superior craftsmen and finish workers. They did an excellent job down to the very last detail. <br /> Eighteen years ago, I had this same firm replace our roof with excellent results. I knew I could rely on their professionalism and I'm not disappointed. Nonetheless, I went out and secured two other bids from what I understood to be very reliable contractors. The estimators represented their firms in a very knowledgeable way, however, their estimates were 50% to 80% higher! <br /> With first hand knowledge of this quality roofing contractor and an excellent price, the decision to choose General Roofing became a no brainer. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Anchorage, AK

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
