"Summary: Quality work for the most part, but may shake you down for more money to complete the job, so make sure that you get your contract in writing. Detail: I had just purchased a new home and needed to have an old retaining wall re-built on short notice, as well as have a drain installed due to some erosion causing the wall itself and the brick flower beds below it to become misaligned and lose structural integrity. I contacted a few companies including Eldi Landscaping. After receiving a rather high initial estimate in person of $16,000 to repair the wall, install the drain, and re-align the flower beds at the bottom of the wall, with a 10 year guarantee, I let Eldi know that I would compare his pricing to that of the other companies I reached out to and would let them know if we decided to go with them. He later texted me and lowered his offer to $13,800 to use new material, or $8,800 to do the job with my existing slate. $8,800 was a great price, we were strapped for cash from the new home purchase, and the stone was still in good condition, so I let him know we were on board with that. The work was started quickly and finished over the course of 3 days. The wall looks good and has been holding up well. However, on the last day he called me downstairs and told me that he wasn't going to fix the flower beds at the bottom of the wall unless we paid an extra $2000. I protested this and reminded him that we had discussed the full job being completed, including that section, and that he offered $8800 to complete the job without my prompting him for a lower price. At this point he essentially told me that he wasn't going to complete the job unless we agreed to pay him the extra money. I looked through my texts with him to find something in writing and realized that he was very careful to not mention specifics about the job in writing and kept all the details of the work that he promised would be completed to phone discussions. In the interest of not having them leave the job half done (while we were having this discussion, the wall was torn down and the hill it was built into all dug up), I stupidly agreed to pay him the extra money. I had offers from other contractors that were lower than the $10,800 I ended up paying, and went with Eldi because they offered the lowest price. I may have gone with another contractor if they quoted me what I actually ended up paying. It was pretty much my own fault for not getting our agreement in writing, but I'm a new homeowner without much experience working with contractors and I feel that Eldi took advantage of this to strong arm me out of more money than we agreed to. Additionally, when they left the job, they did not completely clean up, and filled one flower bed with small rocks (which is what we asked for), and the other with patches of grass, small boulders, and dirt that they had torn up from the hill while working. I later had to pay for a dumpster and remove all of this myself. As I said, the work itself turned out pretty good and was completed quickly. But if you end up working with this company, make sure that everything you need done, including a full cleanup, is documented in writing, with a specified price and signatures from both parties. Otherwise you may find yourself the victim of the classic contractor shake down that I unfortunately fell victim to."

Customers say: Quick response

"If you need help with landscaping, taking out trees, regrading a lawn; breaking up concrete adjacent to the garage that was contributing to mold; if you need someone who is meticulous, is quickly able to assess the problem - look no further. Our property was a mess, looked neglected, and in need of a major â haircutâ . Calling Diversified Trades was the best thing Iâ ve done for our home, and meeting Greg was a consummate relief ..He is consistent, reliable and does fabulous work. We liked him so much that after he finished the landscaping project we didnâ t let him go : we hired him to remove our pool . He brought in all the heavy duty equipment, and just as meticulously, got the job done. No headaches. As I said : look no further if you need help with your property just call Greg at Diversified Trades. Youâ ll love your property again."

"Ken and David did a great job digging a trench under our gravel driveway. It needed to be 70 feet and 24 inches deep for code. We put down conduit pipe, back filled and spread new gravel for finishing. It looks better than before and now we can finally get electric to our detached barn. We plan on doing a few more landscape/excavation projects, and will certainly be calling Ken."

"My property was listed for sale during the late fall/winter months.  Realtors needed access to the property for showings with very little notice.  Scott and his team kept the property in good condition through the winter months by plowing and sanding a steep drive and clearing snow and ice by the road, routinely checking mechanical systems in the house and performing light cleaning.  My house is sold now and I referred SFH to the new owners.  I wish Scott and SFH all the best!"

"Hiring Hollow Ridge Landscaping this spring for our yard clean up and summer yard maintenance was one of the smartest decisions! Jarrod Gillooly's attention to detail, commitment to excellence and exceeding expectations is such a breath of fresh air. Our property have never looked as good as it does now. Jarrod is easy to talk to, never pushes for the up-sell. We had avoided hiring a landscaper for years, it just seemed to expensive but after the first time Jarrod provided service it was clear having an expert taking care of the yard was worth every penny, it freed us up to work, enjoy our daughter and the summer. We highly recommend Hollow Ridge Landscaping and Jarrod Gillooly to anyone looking for honest quality Landscaping at reasonable prices."

FAQs for interlocking pavers for patios, walks & steps installation projects in Ancram, NY

To calculate your paver needs:

  • Determine how many pavers cover a square foot.

  • Determine how many square feet you need.

  • Add an additional 10% to 20% for breakage and waste.

  • Consider your pavers’ sizes.

Or, you can hire a local pro who you know will get the right measurements the first time. This way, you get your weekend back instead of spending it measuring square footage.

A pallet of pavers costs $300 to $700 on average, and each pallet covers 56 square feet. The exact price depends on the type, size, and quantity of pavers you choose. Buying in bulk can sometimes offer additional savings, especially for larger projects. Ask your pro how you can save on material costs.

To get the best prices on pavers:

  • Hire a professional landscaper: Pros often receive discounts on materials, which can make hiring them more cost-effective overall.

  • Shop at local building supply stores: Check for overstock or bulk purchase deals. Bulk purchasing can be more costly up front but save you money in the long run.

  • Buy directly from manufacturers: Purchasing from a local brickyard or paver factory can offer competitive prices, especially for large quantities.

The main difference between driveway pavers and patio pavers is their load-bearing capacity. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, whereas patio pavers aren’t suitable for such heavy loads. You can use driveway pavers for a patio, but using patio pavers for a driveway could lead to damage. Always check the weight limits of pavers and consult with a professional installer to choose the right type for your project.

Paver patios cost more than concrete patios because the materials and installation methods require advanced techniques and skilled labor. They deliver enhanced aesthetic appeal and allow for easier small‑scale repairs without affecting property taxes. The higher expense arises from premium paver materials and intricate installation processes that deliver long‑lasting durability and design flexibility. This robust solution provides notable benefits over concrete alternatives, making it a valuable investment for homeowners.
