"Very knowledgeable, high attention to safety, and possible alternatives. Carefully examined a dangerous dead tree and used slow efficient methods throughout the process of cutting top first then lower areas. He used excellent equipment and efficient methods. He carefully further split wood so that it can become firewood to heat homes for persons who need it. Clean up was as agreed upon before service. I would give him high level recommendation for all work completed."

"We had our front yard redone with a facelift and some edging and mulch along a new fence in the back. They also removed several stumps for us too. We gave them an idea, they selected the plants and we let them know the look we were going for. It was amazing. Super reasonable, reliable and great to work with ! Will be hiring them for another project very soon. Highly recommend !"

"Melvin and the team at Urizar Landscaping designed and created an backyard for us that is both beautiful and elegant. I expected the total overhauling and re-designing our landscaping would be a challenging experience. With Melvin’s personal attention, we felt that every stage of the project was well managed and took extra care in making sure everything was done very thoughtfully. He communicated daily gave updates, and was great with giving timeframe estimates with each step. All around great group, the front/rear yards look amazing and we can't wait to plant spring flowers!"

"I have used About Green twice in the past 3 years. Our backyard has a lot of trees and very tall tree-type hedges. Since it was a major part of the reason we bought the home, we want to maintain the health of the landscaping back there. Vince and his team scaled and thinned/trimmed a couple very tall redwood trees, removed an unhealthy leaning tree and trimmed/maintained many other trees on our property. Vince is a pleasure to work with and very friendly. He is extremely knowledgeable in all of the trees that we have and suggests what service to do on each type of tree based on his knowledge of each. He explains it very clearly to us who don't know much about the subject. His work is quality and his goal is 100% customer satisfaction. On this last visit, they spent a few hours trimming a tree-type hedge and when I came home from work, I wanted it around 3 feet lower. Even though it meant repeating the work for a few hours, Vince did it without any argument. To me, that was a true test of customer satisfaction. They complete the work in a timely manner, over a 2 day period. They cleaned up the yard like new and disposed of a ton of trimmings (never seen so much in my life). I never even consider another tree service besides About Green. I plan to have him come out after summer to suggest some landscaping ideas as I haven't used him for that before.."

FAQs for trees & shrubs treat, protect and maintain projects in Aptos, CA

The optimal transplanting season depends on your tree species, but most trees respond best when moved during dormancy. For deciduous trees, late fall after leaf drop or early spring before bud break provides the lowest stress periods. Evergreens transplant better in early fall or late summer when soil temperatures remain warm enough for some root growth. Avoiding transplanting during active growth periods helps trees direct energy toward establishing new roots rather than supporting foliage.

While technically, trees of any size can be transplanted with the right equipment and expertise, practical considerations limit what's reasonable for most homeowners. Trees with trunk diameters under 15 inches are most commonly transplanted in residential settings. Success rates decline as trees increase in size and age, with specimens over 24 inches in diameter presenting significant challenges and costs. For large trees, carefully weigh the substantial investment against the potential benefits and survival probability.

Most transplanted trees require one to two years to fully establish in their new location, with larger specimens often needing additional time. During this establishment period, the tree regenerates roots that were inevitably lost during the move. Signs of successful establishment include normal seasonal growth patterns, healthy leaf development, and reduced dependence on supplemental watering. The quality of aftercare during this critical period significantly influences long-term survival rates.

Self-transplanting is feasible for small trees with trunk diameters under two to three inches if you have proper tools and follow correct techniques. However, medium to large trees require professional expertise and specialized equipment to ensure tree survival and property protection. While professional services cost more initially, they achieve much higher success rates and prevent potential damage to your property or the tree itself. The investment in professional services often proves worthwhile when considering the value of mature trees.
