"We highly recommend J.P. McCurdy Electrical Services. We hired this exceptional shop to replace all the old knob and tube wiring (along with switching out a number of light fixtures and installing several ceiling fans) in our 120-year-old Victorian home – a challenging job that a couple of other electricians didn’t feel confident undertaking. Owner Jack McCurdy personally came to size up the job and give us a detailed estimate, and his professionalism, courtesy and extensive knowledge sold us. What was originally thought to be a two-week job was finished in six working days as foreman Joe Costain efficiently deployed his crew and brought in a second crew on a few days to expedite the work. Joe was great at communicating what kind of activity we could expect day-to-day, especially as both my wife and I are working from home fulltime during the COVID pandemic. He and the crew checked in frequently on our preferences, minimized the number of holes in the ceilings and walls (including avoiding harming our wallpaper in a couple of rooms altogether), and cleaned up well at the end of every day. Jack’s estimate was competitive and the final accounting accurately included the additions and subtractions we agreed to during the job. We feel so much better that we’ve finally eliminated the risky knob and tube wiring and updated the entire house’s electrical system. "We had a list of items that needed to be completed (driveways lamps posts/lighting, cathedral ceiling fan, various fixtures, etc.) and a couple of more involved projects we were thinking of doing, like a hot tub installation. Harland Electric was responsive, prompt, courteous and professional throughout the entire process—from initial contact, estimate and work. They itemized each of the projects so that we could pick and choose the work that needed to be done, and were helpful in detailing the complexities of certain projects and weighing the pros and cons of having electrical work done. During the course of coming to the house and knocking every item off of our list (which took 1.2 days worth of work/time), they also alerted us to an electrical fire hazard for an outdoor flood light that another electrician from another previous company just left and said was okay. They replaced the entire light and wiring and now it looks great the way it illuminates our side yard! We even overpaid at the end of the project and they immediately let us know! They are scheduled to return in the spring to install a pool heater and we have no doubt they will do a great job. Overall, great service, highly ethical company and good value overall. "I had an old light fixture removed that did not have a backbox & cover plate to house the wires correctly and a bedroom ceiling fan that mysteriously stopped working. I read a number of Angie's list reviews and felt that VMA Electric seemed like straight shooters, fully transparent and would be able to solve my issues efficiently. (I knew this job would be T&M rather than pre-quoted as it's impossible to say how long something like this would take). But Nancy in the office was wonderful to work with scheduling the work and she gave me the hourly rates ahead of time so I knew what I was going into. I was fortunate with my timing as they just had a cancellation - so they were onsite the very next morning. They solved both of my issues efficiently, cleaned up after themselves and made the whole process extremely wonderful. If you're reading this saying "I just need an electrician or two to come by and fix a couple of lingering items that I've had on my checklist for awhile" - you've found your company. The invoice/bill for the work was emailed to me the following day and it was exactly in line with expectations (a lot of reviewers are cautious about seeing an invoice after the fact). The pricing was exactly in line with the rates previously given and it was itemized with materials, etc. Anybody would be very happy with this group."

"Excellent work. Joe recommended going with a wireless switch for the basement lights to avoid having to run a long cable to the bulkhead doorway - that was a better idea than what I had originally thought. In order to find a pilot light switch for our attic (one that glows red when the lights are on - because you don't see the lights if you accidentally leave them on), he had to go to two different electrical supply stores. Joe worked very efficiently and cleaned everything up afterwards. For sure we will hire him for any future electrical needs."
