In addition, we also offer free estimates and in-house financing on all of our services. Ensure that your property looks pristine with our friendly and experienced tree professionals. Cost is determined by the job. License no: #201. No matter how complex your tree removal, we have the experience to: Do the job right Do the job safely Do the job efficiently Do the job affordably Do the job to your complete satisfaction

"They took down a dying ash for me and did a good job. There are a few big reasons I'm giving them a bad review. First, despite my specifically asking if a tree removal permit was required, they said no. They know better - I found out afterwards that a permit is required. I could have been fined a serious amount of $$$. They also recommended trimming my huge elm tree in July, but lucky for me two other tree companies told me that elms can only be trimmed in winter when they are dormant. Trimming elms when they have leaves risks Dutch Elm disease. Shifflett has been in business for a long time - surely they know better about all of the above. Really disappointed. In DC, both you as the homeowner and the tree service can get slapped with hefty fines (like $10K and up) for failing to apply for a permit to remove a tree. For a dead or dying tree, the permits are free. Adirondack Tree not only told me I had to get a permit, they also applied and got it for me. It took about 2 days. People may not know that in DC and other areas like Takoma Park, MD, you need a permit to remove trees, but a professional tree service should know and follow this law, it's there for a good reason. See ddot.dc.gov/page/tree-re… Beyond that, Shifflett's estimate that was way more than those from two other tree companies. I'm just lucky that I got other estimates - otherwise I would have paid far more, risked being fined for not having the required permit, and my elm tree could have gotten Dutch Elm disease due to Shifflet's negligence."

We Are a 13 Years of experience working on Tree Services Family owned business. Book your FREE ESTIMATE online at https://calendly.com/axcobartreeservices/schedulefreeestimate Melvin Alfaro started this business in 2010 ( After Graduated from Seneca Valley High School , in Germantown, MD 20874 ). With the support of his brother (Fidel Alfaro) , family, friends, teachers and customers who trust in our quality, the business got established. Thanks for all the support.

"Axcobar should be your first choice for tree cutting and removal. Their service was outstanding in every way. Melvin responded in person to my emergency call after the recent tornado (microburst) in Olney took out six of the large, old trees in my yard. One of the trees was hanging over the deck and threatened to create more damage to my house if not skillfully removed. Axcobar showed up with a fabulous crew and a couple of trucks with shredders attached. These folks worked tirelessly over two days to cut, shred, and remove the trees that fell and the ones that were damaged and still standing. In addition, they removed all of the broken branches, twigs, and assorted debris in the area. We can not say enough good things about this service. Oh btw, their pricing was extremely competitive and fair. We will use them again and highly recommend them to others."

"Once again, Rebel has helped me with a problem. Last time, he repaired my deck. This time, he sanded the cabinet so the new stove would fit in. And the results really look good. Rebel needs to get a bit more organized with time but he does such a good job that I'm not terribly concerned. And yes, I would hire him again."

"I received an estimate from Wiley Holland, Green Vista’s estimator, who spent considerable time explaining my options and how they would do the work while protecting my recently over-seeded lawn. Confident that they would protect the lawn, I chose Green Vista to perform the work. Their estimate was also less than the other two estimates I had received to have a huge multi-trunk maple tree beside my house removed and a smaller maple in the front of the house pruned. Wiley and a crew of 7, plus several large trucks, appeared at my house 3 days later, before 8:00 AM, to perform the work. A bucket truck was used to prune the front-yard maple, but we decided that the bucket truck was too heavy (30,000 – 40,000 lbs.) to drive across the somewhat soft lawn to be used on the side-yard maple tree. Wiley left to perform other estimations, and the crew got to work. The trunk of the large maple had roughly a “figure 8” cross-section with a circumference of about 14’. The main trunk split into 4 smaller trunks about 10’ off the ground, and these smaller trunks soared to over 80’. A single climber took about 6 hours to completely remove this tree, with a few other workers hand-carrying the limbs and branches out to the chipper as they fell. When the cuttings involved logs too large to hand carry, they used a small tractor to carry the logs to the truck after first laying a temporary road of yard-protection mats from the street to the side yard as previously agreed to. The remaining stump was cut as close to the ground as permitted by the chain saw. The entire job, included deep pruning the smaller maple using the bucket truck, was completed in about 7 hours. The work crew did a great job of cleaning up all debris from the lawn before leaving and even used rakes and a leaf blower to fluff up the grass that had been flattened by the yard-protecting mats. You could hardly tell that they had been there. Green Vista was able to schedule the work within a few days of the estimate, did the job for a competitive price, performed all work agreed to, and avoided any damage to the lawn. I was very pleased with the entire process and would definitely use Green Vista again."

Family owned & operated. Cost is determined by the job. Free estimates. No travel charges. May contact through e-mail. Ask about our military discount! If sending a message through the message center, please attach a phone number that you can be contacted at as well. Thank you, and we look forward to servicing you needs!

"They were quick to respond and performed the work within a week, However, that is the only nice thing I have to say. Scheduling was a bit odd (texting on Monday morning asking to come over with no notice--which I was unable to do--and then the next day cancelling at the last minute after I took time off from work to meet them). When they actually performed the work, they left a giant tree limb in my backyard, which I now somehow have to dispose of, and huge gouges in my front lawn (looks like their truck took a joy ride, despite my having more than ample driveway space). They assured me the lawn would "puff back up" when it rained, but of course it didn't, because that is not a thing. Instead, now I have nice lakes in my yard that should make for excellent mosquito feeding grounds in a few months. They promised to "send someone out" to look at the damage, but of course they didn't do that either. So in addition to paying (way too much) for tree trimming and removal, I get to pay to repair my lawn and figure out how to remove this tree limb from my yard."

FAQs for tree service projects in Arlington, VA

You might remove a tree for free if it’s small, easy to reach, and your city doesn’t require a permit. Call the planning or public works office first to be sure. If they give you the green light, follow all safety rules, wear protective gear, and ask a friend to spot you. When in doubt—or if the tree is tall—hire a pro instead.

In many cities, you’ll need a permit—sometimes even an arborist’s report—before cutting down a tree. Start by calling your local building or planning department. They’ll tell you whether the tree is protected, how big it can be before a permit kicks in, and whether the work has to be done by a licensed pro. Get written approval before scheduling the job to stay on the right side of local rules.

It’s best to leave healthy trees alone—they add shade, boost curb appeal, and support wildlife. Take one down only if it’s dead, diseased beyond saving, or posing a real safety risk. Check local rules first; many areas protect heritage or street trees.

When removal seems necessary, bring in a licensed arborist for an on-site assessment and written recommendation before you book the crew.

If you’re torn between trimming, pruning, or full removal, start with an honest health check. Trim to shape the canopy or encourage new growth. Prune when you spot broken or diseased branches that could spread trouble.

Plan on removal only if the trunk is hollow, several major limbs are dead, storm damage is extensive, or the tree leans dangerously toward a structure.

A tree that’s 15 to 20 feet from your home isn’t automatically a problem. Healthy, small species often coexist just fine with houses. Trouble starts when the trunk shows decay, roots crack the foundation, or overhanging branches threaten the roof. Bring in a licensed arborist for a close look and written recommendation before you decide to remove or simply prune.

Timing hinges on size and complexity. A small tree might be gone in a few hours, a mid-sized one in half a day, and a giant could keep the crew busy for one to two full workdays. Add extra time if you’re grinding the stump, hauling wood, or navigating tight spaces near power lines or fences.
