"About a year ago, after several days of heavy wind and rain, I woke up to my roof leaking into my living room. After trying to contact several roofing contractors, Dialed In sent someone over to take a look. It was too late in the season for them to do the roof replacement last year, but they kindly sent one of their guys to do a temporary repair to get me through the winter. They did the temporary fix for no charge, with the agreement that I would have them do the roof and gutters this year. They were very nice to work with. Their crews were very efficient and had the space cleaned up as soon as the job was complete. I highly recommend."

"I needed six new windows and a storm door replaced...and all were long overdue projects. I got three estimates. Tom from Capa was the third (and the quote was in the middle of the three), but I felt WAY better about dealing with him than anyone else. Tom did not try to upsell me into an expensive brand. One company insisted I have entirely new windows....no inserts. Tom did not agree. Tom told me that "we'll take care of you" and was as good as his word. The company is honest and works hard to please you. On installation day, three men arrived and installed all 6 windows and the storm door in one day. They took pride in their work and were extremely hard workers. I HIGHLY recommend Capa. They are good, honest people."

"An inspection of the "boot" was performed and the Inspector performed a thorough investigation of the entire roof. It was found another problem existed. The inspector was thorough in showing exactly why the area was a problem and what needed to be done. The price was reasonable and the work was done promptly."

"I had A.B.Edward replace our shingles and gutters after seeing the good work of their crews over several years and because their showroom nearby let us easily compare materials as needed. They started the job promptly and finished it on time and without cost overruns. There were no problems on completion, and there are no problems four seasons later. I am totally satisfied with their performance and will look to them again for future projects."

"Spandikow was very quick to respond to my email requesting a quote for a new roof. We ended up going with him because of his responsiveness and price. We put the deposit on a credit card, and there is an additional 3% fee for that, which he explained to us. There was a bit of miscommunication regarding the start date of the work, but he was apologetic and rescheduled us very quickly. His crew was on time, professional and cleaned up everything. They tore off our old roof and did our new roof in one day, which we were really impressed by! Would definitely recommend."

"Everyone I work with at Moore Construction is always great! Our roof was replaced about 10 years ago and we’ve hired them for other smaller projects (such as soffit repair on garage). I get quick responses when I call the office. The people who come out to do the work are prompt, efficient, clean up after themselves and are just nice guys. After some big storms we occasionally loose a shingle or two, but I never have to worry because they come out to fix within a few days. I never have to worry about them honoring the warrantee on the roof. They are nice people who I feel pride themselves in taking great care of their clients."

"There seems to be the practice on Angies List of giving anyone who does a decent job an 'A'; I rarely feel like giving out 'A's. But Larry Gustafson and my new roofs most definitely deserve an 'A'. I found Larry to be super-likable, easy to talk to and very honest. The main reason we were getting a new roof was bc raccoons had gotten into my lower attic twice over the fall/winter. He had the idea of putting 4 feet of sheet metal all around the edges of my lower roof, so future raccoons still may be able to pull up shingles but they will have a much tougher time getting into lower attic. He also gave me a new attic fan, replaced the vents and added a new ridge vent to the upper roof. Even with all these, he was still more than a grand cheaper then either of my other estimates. What they other reviewers say is true- Larry is up on the roof with his crew working/supervising and doing the more important tasks e.g. flashings, vents. He and his guys finished the work a couple of months ago and I have seen zero leaks or problems despite having had plenty of rain."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Batavia, IL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
