"Gunner Roofing has an excellent team that completed my house siding project. As certified installers of James Hardie, they were professional from start to finish! Andrew was extremely knowledgeable of the product and created a spectacular design and assisted w/ the financing of my project. He was always available to answer all questions. The Project Manager Anthony communicated daily with project updates and was extremely responsive to questions and addressed all concerns in a timely manner. The workers were exceptional as they always arrived early and worked late to ensure completion of the work. Really appreciated their attention to detail! I highly recommend this company!"

"We were extremely pleased with the entire process of having a new roof installed. Ron was very pleasant and promptly came to our house. He gave us a very fair estimate, from which he later subtracted the promised discount for mentioning Angie's List. His crew was prompt, pleasant, and professional. They worked steadily and cleaned up the surroundings not only after the first day, but after the second and final day. Everything was done to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend the company."

"We had a great experience with Paragon from beginning to end. The installation itself went very smoothly and they worked through some fairly complex problems with the parts of the roof that are not of a typical design. It's been two years and everything is holding up very well. I would definitely recommend them."

"Donnie gave me a free estimate to repair a water heater vent leak in my upper story roof. While he was on the roof, he noticed rain diverters that were improperly installed and could potentially cause damage and he noticed shingles that had been damaged by a tree limb. His price for the repair for all these problems was fair and reasonable. He returned my calls on time and came to make the repairs when he said he would. It took him several hours to complete the work and he provided me pictures of the completed repairs. The second story roof is a place I will never see. I appreciated the pictures. Has not rained since the vent repair but I do not expect it to leak. He gave me a warranty on his work. I would definitely call on Donnie Long again if I need roofing services. <br />"

"My home has a 100+ year old slate roof in disrepair and several generations of cheap fixes. I contacted Leeland's for an opinion on repairs. The inspector was extremely thorough, provided pictures, and gave me his candid opinion on the remaining life of my roof based on the condition of my slates and flashings. He ultimately wrote up an estimate to paint the rusted metal valleys, replace several dozen broken slates, repair rotted wood, and install new copper chimney flashing and a cricket. It was a difficult decision to repair vs replace the roof, but I never felt any pressure from them one way or another. I agreed to the repairs originally, but ultimately changed my mind and just decided to replace the roof. I'm sure this was a hassle to go back and forth with me, but they were very patient, and ultimately returned my deposit. I really appreciate their honesty and customer service, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for maintenance on their slate roof. <br />"

"Had a few shingles blow off during a storm. Called a couple roofers, and both estimates were over 1,000. 3 brothers inspected the roof and replaced the shingles for less than half of that. Great job too!"

"In my opinion they kind of shot from the hip. I have been doing construction for years and didn't feel like doing this project. I thought they went too quick in the quote and I thought it was very low and I was concerned about it. We hired a different contractor that was much more detailed. They were doing the quote too quick, didn't take enough measurements, and it was too low. I know that they have been in business for a long time so maybe that was why he was able to do it that way. Based on the other quote, I mean I know something about the material they were going to use, and it's expensive. It's a material that you put under your deck to keep the water from coming through and makes the deck act as a ceiling, I can't remember what they call it. We were going to do it 5 or 6 years ago and it was very expensive. I don't think that his quote reflected the cost of that material and he said it did. I was just concerned that we would run out of money and get in trouble there. It took him awhile to get the quote. We actually had awarded the job to someone else before we heard back from him again."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Bath, NY

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
