As Matt (owner of MAP Construction) explained to me, when you tear off a wood shake roof, you have to completely re-deck the whole thing. In our case, that would mean almost 90 sheets of plywood. He pointed out soft spots that would have to have replacement wood. He was prompt, friendly, and knew his product well.
