"Jeff Workman gave me a decent appraisal for my roof. He had the materials delived to my house, Owens Corning shingles w/lifetime warranty. Jeff and his crew did a great job replacing the entire roof. When he was about 90% done he called me out to report a problem with the shingles. The shingles that were delivered were from 2 different factories and the color was slightly different. He told me he asked his supplier about it, but they told him if the customer doesn't notice to go on with it. Jeff told me he couldn't do that, as it was his reputation on the line for the roof. After a few days of discussion with the supplier, Owens-Corning, and Jeff, a representative from Owens showed up and admitted the problem was with Owens-Corning. He took a couple of sample to send to the lab. <br /> Jeff wanted the roof done and told me that he would have to strip off the new roof comnpletely and start over. He told me not to worry about the cost as we had a contract for a roof between us. He also said that if Owens didn't make the mistake right he would bear the cost of the new roof. Well 6 weeks later we are still dealing with Owen-Corning, Jeff put on 2 roofs, and I paid for 1. Everything is great as far as I am concerned, but I am still dealilng with Owens to get Jeff paid for the second roof. The house looks great and I couldn't be happier. <br /> Overall, he is honest, hardworking, and trustworthy, and that doesn't happen a lot in the buiolding trades industry. I will recommend Amercian Dream Roofing and Jeff Workman to everyone how asks. <br />"

"I was really surprised at the smooth process. Seems that working with a contractor is always a pain/inconvenient but NCB Solutions made everything easy-going. I would recommend them for any roofing or exterior home improvement needs. Also the owners are more than helpful, attentive, and hard-working."

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"The contractor arrived on the date and at the time that they told us they would be at our house. They stripped the old roof off and put new plywood in where it was needed.  They then put down new felt, shingles and ridge cap. They cleaned up the areas around the house where the old materials came off the house and hauled away all the rubbish. A very nice professional job. The only complaint that we had was the salesman told us that they would put a temporary patch on the roof in November. They didn't get out to put the temporary patch until March. So far even with the heaviest rains we have no leaks. (Knock on wood!) <br />"

"<p>Very prompt in providing an estimate; contractor showed up the day after I called.  They started the roofing job on 8/16/13, came back on 8/17/13 (Saturday) and had completed about two-thirds of the job.  The contractor said he had to do another job and would be back the following Wednesday to finish mine.  He did not show up on Wednesday as promised. Contractor called 8/22/13 wanting to finish the job on 8/23/13. I had already informed him that I would be out of town the following day and for the rest of the next week and did not want them working on the roof while I was gone.  The contractor came on 9/3/13 to complete the job.</p> <p>Good parts:  This contractor has been in business for many years and came highly recommended.  Showed up each day with a full crew and worked quickly and professionally.  Cleaned up the job as they worked so at the end of the day, I couldn't tell they had been there.  I believe they did a good job in installing my new roof.  Owner and workers were courteous and professional.  I had a leak around the chimney and called the contractor on 1/13/14; the contractor arrived later that same day and did some additional caulking around the chimney...problem solved.</p> <p>Bad parts:  This contractor is not cheap.  They left my job before completing it.  They had to remove some siding between the house roof and the porch roof to install flashing and the siding was damaged and needed replaced.  I had to pressure the contractor to commit to repairing the siding which he agreed to do, but said he would come back later to complete.  Ultimately I had to hire somebody else to make the siding repairs.  They left the power mast flashing sticking up and unpainted and failed to caulk over the nails left exposed on the ridge cap.</p> <p>To summarize, I think this is a good contractor, but interested mainly in production, that is, installing roofing as quickly as possible to maximize profits.  They could pay more attention to the finishing details.  Overall I would recommend them.</p> <br />"

"<p>Material arrived on Friday 9/5/2014. Paid half of contract price.</p> <p>Rain prevent start until Mon. 9/8/2014. Four man Crew arrived 8am and immediately began work.</p> <p>Removed sections of old 30x30 foot garage roof with drip edge and check sheathing. Were well equipped for task having proper tools and know-how.</p> <p> Workers seemed to be Hispanic and only spoke to each other in Spanish. Communication with only one person in English. This was not a problem. They each seemed to have a job and went about it with little or no discussion about what was to be done. They finished the job and left the area clean, magnetically sweeping the area for metallic debris. </p> <p>I was a little skeptical about how the joining of the garage roof to the main building roof would work. After observing how they took care of the task, I have little doubt it will work. The procedure seemed to follow all the research I had done concerning membrane roof installation on the internet and conversations with friends and neighbors. </p> <p>This job was a bit unusual it that it was a nearly flat 30x30 foot roof joined to a 30x60 foot Armco Steel Building constructed in 1956.The roof joined one side of the main building and had leakage problems for at least 30 years where the two buildings met. Several roofers had tackled the job before with limited to no success. </p> I have know Frye Roofers since 1955 when the original owners were in Bluefield. The present company seem to be carrying on a tradition of quality workmanship and professionalism. I have more confidence in this job at this site than any approach any other roofers have attempted with this unique problem. Paid in full 9/9/2014. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Beckley, WV

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
