"the project took 8 months from start to finish, we are extremely pleased with the quality of work and craftsmanship detail. With any major projects issues come up that we were not planning on but the crew gave us different options and we worked through the problem. We would highly recommend Jay and his team. Always on time with clean up nightly was appreciated"

"Jim is a top-notch independent professional. He's busy and he works at his pace. If you aren't in a hurry, his schedule makes up for his quality and professionalism. Jim responded to a call. We spoke about the repair needed. It took him a week or two to get out to the property to survey the damage. I put in a couple of calls along the way. Once he got out, he told me when he could get to it and that suited us fine. He offered some constructive suggestions that were actually a bit less than we wanted to do regarding the repair. We appreciated his recommendation.Once we committed to the project, he got right to it. Really good attention to detail and materials. You get the feeling that he is fixing it with the same attention that he'd give his own home.  <br /> After the repair, he got back to us with an additional suggestion on securing some structural issues. He offered the service as an add-on. Again, good suggestion from Jim and we proceeded.  <br /> The collapsed chimney left a mess of rock and block in the yard. Jim cleared that away for us without even being asked.  <br /> We'll be calling on him for sure for future work. <br />"

"The guy who did the power washing, and the sub contractor who did all of the painting, were great, and did an amazing job. I was new to this, and didn't realize that I should have found a smaller company, who actually does the work, instead of paying a much higher price, for quoters, project managers, etc. One of my neighbors tried to help me out, by letting me know that I could have saved a lot of money by doing this, but it was too late. So I recommend to anyone needing painting done, to find a smaller company, where the owner is the quoter, estimater,, project manager, and actually does the work, etc. rAlso I had a big problem with communication with the "quoter" for the company, and him not doing what he said he was going to do. I was going to cancel the project, but the owner of the company came out with the "quoter" and smoothed things over with me. The main reason that I didn't cancel with this company, was because they did offer financing, (one year, same as cash), and because I have already paid for a lot of projects, and still have more to do. But I could have paid probably half of the price to a "sub contractor. " I just recommend that you research companies, and take some time to think about it, before you agree to anything."

"Great. Derek and his dad worked hard and did a wonderful job. They are both friendly and personable. They had to leave before they could finish a closet in one of the bedrooms so Derek said he would come back and complete the work.. Derek is a man of his word and did come back and finish the closet and clean up the waste and take it outside by my trash barrel. I would hire him again in a heartbeat as he works hard and is reasonably priced."

"I am extremely pleased with the door installation. My home is almost 100 years old, so getting the correct fit was not an easy task. Mr. Konkey arrrived at the appointed time and worked diligently to ensure the door was correctly fitted. I couldn’t be more pleased with his price, professionalism, and attention to detail. Thanks to Scott I have a new door that I love! Would I hire him again? It’s an emphatic, “Yes,” from this pleased customer!"

"It went amazing and we could not be happier with our modern gray wood cabinets.   Not only does Tony have great prices on furniture, his cabinets were great quality at a very reasonable price.  They are solid wood and not just plywood with a wood panel glued on.  They are QUALITY!  I was very impressed.  He even explained how the cabinets are made with "grooves" instead of glue (like most cheaper  cabinets).   <br /> The price was so reasonable for the quality.  I have a bathroom remodel coming up and will absolutely use Tony again.  He is helpful, knowledgeable, and delivers."

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Benton Harbor, MI

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
