"Keeler Electric did an amazing job on our install and let me tell you it wasn't easy in the cold weather with frozen solid ground. From Ryan,Pete and Jason to the installers Bob and Brandon they absolutely delivered and are highly recommend by our family. Extremely friendly and beyond knowledgeable they answered every question and went above and beyond to ensure a timely safe and reliable institution. Glad we chose them to handle our newest investment and look forward to continued business with them. You definitely can't go wrong with this company."

"We hired Guardian to install our security system at our Washington, DC, business. The service and quality of the work was horrible. We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. They could not manage their vendors; what was supposed to take a week took two months. The sales rep did not return calls, and you could never get anyone in management on the phone. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. We have offices in five markets across the US and have high security at each; we have never had such a poor experience."

"James is awesome! I called around for an estimate. Some contractors were not available for a while. Some wanted a hefty fee just to give a quote. Yet another quoted me a ridiculous price. James was extremely responsive, very fairly priced, and very professional. He was polite and completely the work with quality. I was on the phone when he finished. He was very considerate and did not want to interrupt me. He left quietly with the invoice on the table. He truly deserves the A rating. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great electrician!"

"0 stars! Do NOT use this electrician! He is rude and dismissive but charges an inordinate amount without producing quality. Bob and company (I.e., his receptionist) are the absolute rudest contracting org we have ever encountered. We scheduled a service call with Bob for 3 services: 1) to repair a chandelier lift, 2) to install a new chandelier and 3) to install a ceiling fan in place of ceiling light. He came in with an attitude like he did not want to do the job. My husband had been in touch with the manufacturer of the lift and had ordered the replacement part myself. When he tried to explain the background on the lift motherboard, Bob was uninterested and rushed me through the instructions. However, he did not waste any time warning us that he would be charging extra for any trouble-shooting. In the end, he did not hook up the motherboard correctly. We had to have another electrician come to fix his errors. Given his attitude, we did not ask him to complete the chandelier. It was large and complex - so clearly he wanted nothing to do with it. The ceiling fan was a simple change because we already had a ceiling fan guard. This was the only thing he completed. To top it off, when my husband called to let his office know he charged us for doing the job incorrectly (request a partial refund), Tracey began screaming at him, blaming him saying we messed with the motherboard! My husband was patient, spoke calmly, and tried to explain why we should not be charged for the bad job (note we were willing to pay the service fee and work for the fan), she hung up on him! If you expect to pay for a service that is correct, complete and done with respect, Bob from Lehigh Valley Electric is not your electrician."

"In our new house, we wanted all TV monitors to mount on walls, even a very large one. Brendon sequenced everything very well and is really knowledgeable. Before our painters came, he set up cable and electrical in the right places so that any damage could be fixed. His final visit was scheduled to coincide with Comcast’s cable appointment. That turned out to be critical. The Comcast technician was terrible. Brendon spoke his language and achieved a good setup. Without him our TVs and phones would have given endless trouble. He is the best!"

FAQs for generator repair projects in Birdsboro, PA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
