Customers say: Quick response

"Carson, the front-end man, was very helpful and gave us DIY tips, which we did. When those tasks were accomplished - and failed, we then hired Telelink to repair our internal phone system. Baylor, the fix-it guy, was "johnny-on-the-spot," courteous, and efficient - a guy you feel you can trust to do a good job. Our gratitude for a job well done."

"I want to begin with stating the positives of the job. The work was well done. Much to our mistake, we previously hired an unlicensed landscaper to install a putting green and drainage system in our backyard. The work was horrible and we needed it repaired, so we contacted Jesus. He repaired the putting green beautifully and did an amazing job with installing surface drainage throughout our backyard. He was easy to contact and punctual. The job was done quickly. If I stopped here, we would hire him again to complete the landscaping in our backyard. However, problems arose. Due to the incompetence of the previous landscaper we hired, one of the rooms of our house flooded during this year's rainstorms, so we had to repair and waterproof the wall from the outside. Jesus knew we had to do this as the putting green is installed adjacent to this wall. We told Jesus that we already had a guy coming to fix the exterior wall, but he recommended someone else. While we waited for his recommendation to come through, Jesus began installing our putting green. I explicitly asked him how we were going to complete the exterior wall without disturbing the putting green since the putting green is installed against the exterior wall. I was concerned about having to repair the area immediately after installation. Jesus assured me that the repair guy would not have to disturb the putting green much. If not for this reassurance, we would have completed the repair of the wall before installing the putting green. However, after Jesus' recommendation fell through, our original repair guy came to fix the wall after the putting green was installed. The putting green had to be dug up in the area where the exterior wall was being fixed. After the wall was fixed, we asked Jesus if he could touch up the area that was disturbed. This is where the problem starts. Jesus made comments to us that were highly offensive, unprofessional and extremely inappropriate to make to a client, especially one that spent over $7,000 with him. He said he would be charging us $150 to come "clean up" the mess of the exterior wall guy, and that he is "disappointed in the actions of contractors we have hired that he doesn't want to become another one of those terrible choices." Right here, Jesus has personally criticized and insulted us. The exterior wall guy works for a large, licensed company. Jesus went on to say that the guy who repaired the wall should have told us he had to dig up some of the putting green and that he would have to charge us a little more to repair it! He then said that he was not responsible for our entire project. That is correct, he wasn't. However, Jesus was unethical in not informing us that the putting green may have to be dug up and as a licensed contractor, should have advised us to wait on the putting green until the wall was complete instead of charging us more to fix it, himself or another company!!!!! He also said that the exterior wall guy should know how to fix a putting green and that if he didn't know should have called a company to fix it and charge us more! Jesus ended up sending someone over to "fix" the putting green not without hearing grief from him. He later texted us that the exterior wall guy was stupid and didn't have to dig up as much as he did. Then asked us again if we were happy with his work after we already told him 3x that we were. The touch up of the putting green was horrible. There are bumps along the side. His worker didn't bother to even pack the material underneath to make it smooth again. We are currently finding someone else to complete the landscaping of our backyard as we will not be using his service nor recommending his service to anyone due to his extreme lack of client respect. If you want someone to do a good job, but to treat you like **** after paying thousands of dollars, this is the guy for you. He lost a $4,000 job to complete our backyard over $150 and his unprofessional badmouthing."

FAQs for generator repair projects in Borrego Springs, CA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
