"I canâ t say enough about Sean and his guys, they are amazing! Amazingly hard working, courteous, friendly, and very professional. My house is 153 years old and the guys have encountered every problem imaginable but you wouldnâ t know it by watching them or looking at my house. The work has been fantastic. A real pleasure to work with this team. The pricing is also right on point, finally not being raked over the coals by a contractor! I trust Sean and his guys implicitly and canâ t recommend them enough. You canâ t go wrong with these guys. I have several projects still to tackle and I wonâ t be long anywhere else!"

"Everything went wonderfully with this company.  They were very professional, listened to exactly what my problem was, and explained to me how they were going to diagnose the problem and/or solve it before doing any actual work.  Once they started, the team (three people came) worked together like a well-oiled machine.  One was in the room with diagnostics, one was at the fuse box looking for possible problems there, and the third went into the crawlspace beneath our house to look at the physical wiring.  Once the problem was found (there was a faulty wire beneath the house that had come loose from the junction box), it was fixed and tested within minutes and another full diagnostic was done to make sure there were no other possible issues.  They cleaned up after themselves very neatly.  They also replaced the light switch with a dimmer switch at no extra cost!  Well within my budget, and came in even lower than their original (FREE) estimate!  I would highly recommend this company to anyone in the Bergen County area. <br />"

"I saw Ryan working in the neighborhood and admired his work. When I called him for a project on an apartment building, he had some suggestions, provided an estimate and completed the job in a timely fashion ( on budget). Ryan was professional and cleaned up the worksite at the end of each day. He is an excellent communicator, and I highly recommend him"

"We had Oldham Wood make a custom Murphy bed, and successfully coordinated all the details despite being across the country. Oldham had the bed shipped across the country and arrived in excellent condition with the parts, pieces, and instruction for assembly. Highly Recommend!"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Bradford, ME

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
