"I hired Carpet Masters through Angi, and the experience was truly horrifying. Ben T arrived on 9/26, and I paid him the agreed-upon amount plus a tip when he arrived. He was contracted to spot-treat and steam clean my stairs, hallway, and master bedroom. He skipped the spot treatment and rushed through the job. I was wearing slides when I checked the work he did, and I mentioned that it really didn't look clean. He gripped me, What do you think I cut corners? I honestly don't think he cleaned anything upstairs, to be honest. After he left, I found a large puddle of water downstairs that was from his machine. I cleaned it up, then discovered the staircase was so saturated that water pooled around my feet with every step. Despite 5 fans blowing for 24 hrs, and large beach towels sopping up the water, the carpets developed a strong mildew smell that spread through the entire house the very next day. The odor was so bad that my children had to stay with friends. When I called him back, he resisted returning, then agreed to come on 9/29. His solution was to spray deodorizer instead of fixing the problem. He went out to get the deodorizer, and my husband said to me You can't just spray deodorizer on mold. My husband stated that the stairs needed to be properly cleaned first, but Ben claimed it was the carpet's fault. When pressed, he became verbally abusive to me and, after being asked to leave by my husband over the speaker phone, he called me a f***ing whore. To my face, then sped off. The incident left me shaken. I stopped payment on the check (at a $35 fee). While I was on the phone with the bank, Ben repeatedly called me over and over. After taking some time to calm down, I noticed he texted me, Sorry, it's the carpet guy. I won't cash your check. A little research on Yelp revealed that there are dozens of online complaints about him personally, which I should have checked before, but I trusted Angi to properly vet its contractors. I strongly urge Angi to investigate Ben Timmons, remove him from the platform, and reevaluate the vetting process. This type of abusive, negligent, and unsafe behavior should never be allowed under Angi's name."
