"Fatos and his team did an amazing job designing and installing lighting throughout our garden and front of the house. I found them through Angies, got proposals from three companies, and decided to give the business to Kelvin Landscape Lighting. Could not be happier! It looks phenomenal at night, turns on and off automatically like I wanted, and the price was good... just excellent work. Would 100% hire again. PS: I was very concerned about the trenching for cables and how my lawn would look like after. Fatos and team did such a great job you cant even tell there were cables run across the lawn. Amazing!"

"Had several conversations with Dale Orlando before the job started. He was always willing to talk about the job and even made a separate trip to get a feel for what needed to be done. Showed up on time, had the necessary supplies to do the job, worked until he was finished and was a rather gregarious person as well. Impressed me as a competent professional and a good person."

"I just had my generator repaired by Jim Birch, owner of AC Performance Power. This is the company to use. He actually answers your texts, and He takes your call. He shows up when he tells you. Whether it's 6 am or 10 pm. He or one of his guys (blade the Man) will be there. Not only does he do the job, you know he does it right. It's the busiest season, so Jim and his team work long days to finish the job. I had a really difficult short in my generator, and in the end, Jim needed to field-fix my PC board. I am back up and running. 5 stars to Jim and his crew."

"Carlos was extremely attentive to what I needed for my closets and provided great recommendations as we were brainstorming different solutions for how to customize for my new condo. He was prompt in all of our correspondences and transparent about the entire process. I have a couple of oddly designed closet doors that we had to work around; but when the drawers I was hoping for weren't available, Carlos said that he would custom build to what I wanted! We hit a speedbump with me catching covid, but Carlos was very supportive and still came through to complete 2 out of the 3 closets I contracted him for while I stayed at the far opposite end of the condo. I was so grateful for the enthusiasm, professionalism, and straight up care Carlos and his partner put into this project. And I am LOVING the work that's been done so far! Can't wait to get better so that we could start back up on the master bedroom closet!"

"Jack and his Wilburforce crew were hired to complete a high end custom kitchen renovation. The scope of the project included, under cabinet lighting, running lines for the new high hats, and upgrading the electric panel to accompany the new appliances. Jack's knowledge along with his attention to detail was clearly reflected in the excellent work that he performed. The project was made less stressful by his work ethic and excellent communication. Any questions that arose during the renovation, were answered with a quick phone call or a visit to the job site. I highly recommend Jack and WIlburforce for any project without exception."

"From start to finish, Best Quality Electric delivered an exceptional, white-glove experience. The process began with a dedicated consultation that was educational, detailed, and thoughtfully planned—setting a clear vision before any work even began. The following day, the team arrived precisely on time and immediately demonstrated a level of professionalism that is rare to find. Shoe protection was used, and every floor and piece of furniture was carefully covered. Their respect for the home was as impressive as their craftsmanship. Watching the two electricians work was remarkable. They operated in perfect sequence, anticipating each other’s next step, covering every single detail with precision. Not one question went unanswered—each was met with patience, clarity, and deep expertise that inspired complete confidence. Best Quality Electric truly lives up to its name. This is not just electrical work—it’s a refined, high-standard service experience. Bold, meticulous Toptier work! "

FAQs for generator repair projects in Central Islip, NY

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
