"We appreciated J Plus Landscaping because they called us right away, came right away to give an estimate, and then provided prompt and very good quality tree service. They were thorough and trustworthy. We even recommended them to our neighbors, who also hired them and were very satisfied. We are so glad that HomeAdvisor referred to this great tree company to us. We would most definitely use them again!"

"We initially ordered 28 yards of soil, since we were not sure how much we needed. They were very good about letting us know the schedule (a few days of 1+and quot; rainstorms delayed their deliveries). We sent them pictures and measurements of our city lot and the alley. They let us know they could deliver using the 6 wheel truck - 14 cu yds per load. They also have a semi that delivers 30+ yds, but that would be hard to maneuver in. <br /> Pricing - they were not the cheapest. But far from from the most expensive. The cheaper providers quoted non-pulverized topsoil. (and quot;Fresh from the field!and quot;) Which would likely be grapefruit sized chunks of dirt with no compost or manure. Fine for grass, but not great for a garden. And would be a pain to spread by hand. <br /> We had them deliver on Friday, post rush-hour. They got to Uptown (from Union) by ~11. We asked the driver how much fence he needed pulled down, and he got in the yard in one shot. Second load was here by ~2pm. On Sat we spread the dirt around with a Bobcat and found we were a few yards short. Called Monday around 1pm, and they apologized that they would not be able to deliver the dirt until Tuesday morning. <br /> The final delivery was super smooth, and quick. <br /> The dirt appears great. (We have not planted anything yet.) Our Bobcat driver was very impressed with both the quality and quantity of the dirt. He said that what they load in a 6-wheel truck is almost as much as others put in a semi. <br /> There are a few rocks and other bits mixed in, but all of that would easily fit in a 2 gallon bucket from our 35 yds. Perfectly acceptable. I'm happy letting kids run around barefoot on it. It's well pulverized, and is easy to spread by hand. It's almost like shoveling grain. I flipped off my sandals for a some of the hand work time. It just felt nice on the soles of my feet. <br /> I have not gotten dirt from any other suppliers. And honestly, I don't know if I ever will. <br /> <br />"

"They arrived on time after giving me a call first to let me know that they were about an hour away. They came in the alley and used a Bobcat  to remove about four inches of gravel. The area covered was 23 feet by 11 feet. They hand dug around the edges and cleaned the alley when they were finished.  I was given quotes up to $550.00 for the same job from other haulers. I give Ventura and his crew high marks and would use them again in a heartbeat!  Mark me a happy camper. <br />"

"EXCELLENT!!! We cannot say enough good things about this company, the owner and all the workers!!! From start to finish everything was perfect - I cannot remember the last time I said that about any contractor.  They started and finished on time even though we had bad storms moving through the area multiple times.  The owner, Roger is extremely conscientious about the work being done as well as making sure the customer is happy.  The price was more than fare and the end result was beautiful.  The crew was very polite and very neat and VERY hard working.  It is obvious throughout the whole process that Roger takes pride in his work and it looks like it.  I wish I could remember all of the little things that Rodger and his crew did that were not in the contract and not required but they paid attention to every detail!!  We already have an estimate for more work next spring and told Roger to expect a call.  I only wish that Roger did interior work as well because he is a perfectionist and a pleasure to work with. <br />"

"I highly recommend them. I do a lot of my own little things, but they're coming out because I have a big tree I may want them to take and put in something else. I use them for big things. Their pricing is on the higher side, but it is pretty competitive with other companies. You get what you pay for with them. I've got them coming out to check out a few things."

"We had our twenty year old landscaping torn out and beautiful, low maintenance landscaping installed. The employees worked very hard. They were meticulous in cleaning everything up. The prices are reasonable and with good quality. They did a beautiful job on the bullet edging. Chris is very quick at responding. I would hire Hook's Landscaping again and would recommend them. Sincerely, Jean and Howard"

"Art is very courteous, professional, flexible. and easy to speak with. He came when he said he would and provided free estimates as advertised. We had discussed plans and agreed on a price. I will say to provide an idea of his flexibility--we originally agreed on a plan and price--my wife and changed our minds several times on several details, but Art worked with us, never once becoming frustrated with us and respecting our decision making process. As far as the quality of the work, overall it was fairly good, but details (or rather a lack of attention to them) became the source of some disappointment with the overall experience. The gravel, sod laying and seeding were all done exceptionally well--they included some protective fencing (i.e. crude chicken wire, but effective nevertheless at keeping our dogs out whilst the fledgling grass seed and sod took hold). The issues were with clean up of the peanut shells and removal of the tree (along with care for our property during removal of said tree). Admittedly, it may seem trite, but there was debris left at our basement door which sits under our patio that they had failed to clean up consisting of what equated to roughly two full dust pans' worth of peanut shells--this just struck me as lacking thoroughness as that was a simple detail they could and should have attended to given that that was one of the primary items of work in the agreed upon contract. Secondly the tree in question was suppose to removed, including the root system (i.e., not just to be sanded down--this was also agreed upon in our contract)--we wanted the root system out specifically as we intended to do our own landscaping in the front of her house as mentioned before. We became aware of this issue once we started and discovered just how much of the tree have been left behind and was interfering with our own work. I contacted Art on a Sunday, or rather left a message, and he contacted me first thing Monday morning. He said his crew would be out at an agreed upon time as I wanted to be present to observe that the job was completed to my satisfaction. The man came first and tried to dig it out by hand, but it proved unsuccessful. In the process of doing this however, they laid large plank boards over portions of the landscape that we had completed ourselves up to that point, and crushed some of the flowers that we had just planted. Are they came back later and successfully upgraded the rest of the tree. I took pictures and sent them to Art, we had spoke about my dissatisfaction with how this issue was corrected, and destroyed a newly planted flower. In truth the flower was only $15, but it was extremely frustrating to see our own hard work have been so easily overlooked and not respected. Art apologized and offered to correct the destroyed flower issue (free of cost of coarse, including replacement of the flower). Despite these shortfalls, I think we will hire Art again and his crew for future landscaping projects we have. My only words to offer, might be to expect a possible follow up contact to correct a similar shortfalls."
