"When we started looking at options for replacing our roof, we were debating between replacing with shingles or getting a metal roof. After the meeting to get a quote for our roof, while it is more expensive than replacing with shingles, our new roof has a lifetime warranty. When our roof was installed, it was completed in one day. We are very pleased with our new roof and thankful we went with Shield."

"From my first contact with Bone Dry Roofing and all throughout the installation of my new roof, everyone I have had contact with has been professional, polite and very helpful. They kept me informed of step and sent pictures and video to show me exactly what they were doing and seeing. I originally thought this was going to be a painful, stressful process but they have made it a positive, pleasurable experience."

"Robert Helms owner of R&R responded promptly to phonecall & was able to arrange a date within 1 week to meet with me to discuss roof tile concerns & provide thorough inspection. Robert is consummate professional - paying close attention to details, concerns & hands on examination of roof. I was impressed w/ his questions re. History of roof repairs & past issues taking in whole picture of status of roof. As long time home owners of older homes we realize the value of maintenance for prevention & repairs as needed for long term stability of a home as well as lowering risk for problems later on . That said - there have been many occasions where a contractor cut corners or didn't relate essential info only to have problems down the road . Most appreciative Robert noted we had no drip edges on garage ( no wonder we had recent wood damage / rot after last roofers work) and suggested installment. He also problem solved how our painters could get up to 3 rd level dormer assuring their & the roof tile safety. Robert coordinated timing for painter wallboard & repairs right away & he & his 2 workers had all work completed exactly as scheduled . It was great having someone on site who loves & knows his work & goes above & beyond to do the job right. I will definitely utilize R&R for any future needs & highly recommend ! Huge improvement from past experience with larger roof companies where owner out of site once contract signed . <br />"

"The estimator for Old Fort was prompt and courteous, and provided a good estimate for just what I wanted.  I decided to go with another contractor that handled both roofing and siding for my project.  I was pleased with the service and price I received from Old Fort and would consider using them in the future. <br />"

"Rick has a great attitude. No job is too small or seemingly too large. I initially hired him just to help me out with all those small jobs that were hard for me to do myself and in the process found a wonderful carpenter who will be a wonderful asset for future projects. Good, good guy! $35 an hour is a little high in my opinion, but he works efficiently. I don't know - that could be the going rate. I tried contacting others and they took so long to get back to me that I decided just to give Rick and crack at it and see how it went. It went very well."

"From start to finish Randy (one of the owners) was wonderful.  He took time with me and went over pricing and options before and took time after to answer questions we had.  He always took my calls and made a real effort to work with every request.  The crew  cleaned up messes daily, worked hard and were nice guys.  As far as replacing a roof goes, it was the most pleasant experience I have ever had.  The price was the lowest quote we got and honestly, even if it were not, I would have still chosen Randy and A&B just simply based on the fact that he put no pressure on us at all and just was a real pleasure to work with.  <br /> <br /> A roof isn't the most exciting thing you can spend $7K plus on, but if you want quality, professional, good people to do the work and treat you like a person/friend, not a "customer" or the next job, go with A&B.  I will use them for any and all contracting work in the future. <br /> <br /> The only minor problem was a shingle fell and damaged a small part of our bay window molding, which they have have temporarily fixed and will replace the part for me once it comes in.  The crew was more upset than I was, but there were no issues with them fixing it, never a question that they would not. <br /> <br /> Also - $100 off from Angie's List!  :)  Every dollar counts! <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />****UPDATE - it is now October 5 and my window frame has yet to be repaired!  I've contacted them several times and gotten a laundry list of excuses and this week when they finally came out, they didn't order the right frame to repair.  Happy with the roof, unhappy with the follow up and excuses I've gotten since.  We gave a great review and even gave A&B a referral, I doubt that I'd hire these guys again, for fear of if something major went wrong.  Dropping from an A to a B. <br /> <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Columbia City, IN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
