"Gunner Roofing has an excellent team that completed my house siding project. As certified installers of James Hardie, they were professional from start to finish! Andrew was extremely knowledgeable of the product and created a spectacular design and assisted w/ the financing of my project. He was always available to answer all questions. The Project Manager Anthony communicated daily with project updates and was extremely responsive to questions and addressed all concerns in a timely manner. The workers were exceptional as they always arrived early and worked late to ensure completion of the work. Really appreciated their attention to detail! I highly recommend this company!"

"Called because the box vents on the above the kitchen sun room (room off kitchen with a vaulted ceiling a separate roof) would leak when strong winds and rain occurred. I called to have them removed since they never served any purpose in venting that roof. They also inspected the rest of the roof and recommended that one vent pipes was in need of repair, and some of the ridge vents were starting to pull up (the nails were rusting). They suggested a better vent system using shingles covering the vent to protect it. Work done quickly and professionally. Shingles matched very well to existing ones. <br />"

"<p>This is an old (1864) house that is full of surprises, but the DeWalt team seemed very comfortable and fluent in dealing with all aspects of an old house. </p> <p>The work was actually done as 2 separate jobs - the porch being first.  The initial quote was to install 2 new adjustable columns under the porch. After completion, the owner inspected the work and decided to add a 3rd column at no additional charge.   For the interior plumbing, they arrived on time, with different team members assigned to the work for which they were most expert.  Lonni DeWalt, the owner, came around to help assess what was needed, and to inspect the work in progress. Once they determined the need to open walls and replace the last of the old cast iron drain pipes, they provided a separate quote, and recommended we contact our insurance to help cover the cost, which we did.  In the end, they actually came in slightly under their initial quote. </p> <p>Lonni also followed up after completion of each job to be sure I was 100% satisfied.  When I questioned the refinishing of one of the walls, he immediately sent his best sheetrock guy over to inspect and correct the work.  </p> <p>All of the workers were very professional and personable.  I felt confident in their abilities, and their sincere desire to get it right, even if it took more than they originally planned.    </p> <p>I will no doubt use them again.</p> <br />"

"It all began with a very tired-looking kitchen. I didn't have high expectations for the "wow" factor, but I was wrong. I ended up "wowed" by the contractor, the extremely reasonable cost and my new kitchen. <br /> One of the things I liked most about working with Tom was his insistence on quality. He knows the right way to do things and doesn't cut corners. He's very picky about the finished product. It was almost a contest to see how precisely his mitered corners would come together. <br /> Tom is very knowledgeable so he can anticipate and point out problems. Our kitchen design called for the plumbing to go along the wall behind the cabinets and bend around behind a corner cabinet to reach the dishwasher. I never thought about it, but what if a pipe behind the cabinets sprung a leak? Thanks to Tom's recommendation, the dishwasher ended up next to the sink so the plumbing is now accessible. The change meant moving the electrical box for the stove and the ceiling exhaust ducts to the other side of the kitchen, but his crew did that quickly and efficiently. And his recommended changes actually resulted in more usable countertop space. Bonus! <br /> Another great thing is that when he gets a sense of what you like, he suggests options you may not have known about. When he mentioned that I might want to check out some vinyl tiles that looked like stone and were groutable, I turned my nose up, but looked at them anyway. They were perfect! The result looks very high end and our guests have even asked if we put in heated floors because the tile doesn't get cold under foot. In the end, these little touches made the kitchen look upscale and expensive, when it wasn't. <br /> My husband works nights and Tom was very accommodating, moving his work hours to match our schedule. He and his crew always arrived promptly when expected. His attitude is 100% "No problem, can do." He means it, and delivers. Having a full kitchen installed in under a week was unbelievable and far exceeded my expectation. <br /> Tom and his crew are friendly, customer focused people. They are always looking at what's best for the homeowner and go out of their way to fulfill requests for the extra little things you think of along the way. And at the end of the day, he checks around to make sure his crew cleaned up the work site before heading home. It's service with a smile that left us smiling, too. <br /> <br />"

"Their company foundation is good with regards to family and church. They have the technology to measure your roof and still provide a quote even if it is raining outside. John was delayed in calling to say he would be late and arrived 50 minutes past the original appointment time. We requested GAF materials and Timberline HD Lifetime roofing materials. We asked specific questions regarding their workforce, preventing damage to the lawn, insurance liability, contractor numbers, etc., Ultimately, the deciding factor for us when looking at value and price was to go with another contractor that provided the exact same value and was more prompt with a greater longevity of their workforce for about $2,500 less (but not less in service or quality). Out of 3 contractors, I only had 1 who did a follow-up call (not pushy either). Estimate was for a colonial house inclusive of small porch roof and two dormers and garage. Quantity for just roofing shingles 3 tab, 130 mph rating was 20 SQ. I never recommend going with a large company or "fly by night" roofing company so I absolutely suggest getting quotes from local companies like Best who will do it right!"

"Had a few shingles blow off during a storm. Called a couple roofers, and both estimates were over 1,000. 3 brothers inspected the roof and replaced the shingles for less than half of that. Great job too!"

"Mr. Haas identified problems in our roof installation and issued a report. He suggested re-install and steps that we should take to get it done. It was a long process that involved county and DPOR. Mr. Haas was very helpful every step during the entire process. He is highly experienced and very responsive to our calls, text, and email. We eventually got the roof reinstalled in a very good quality. Mr. Haas was onsite multiple times to ensure the right materials and methods were used. It would not be possible without the help from Mr. Haas."

"Mr. Loweth did **** of a great job. He was very professional, kept me informed of the progress, consulted me whenever decisions needed to be made, provided valuable advice, and carried out the work in the best possible way. Being a fantastic artist in another life, he had a sharp eye for detecting problems and creative ways for solving them. I found him to be extremely hardworking and he had great work ethics. The awesome part of having him do all these things was that he ended up doing far more than he had promised. I wasn't expecting all the things that he did to make my deck and porch look fantastic. In addition, he even fixed things that he saw needed small repairs without me even asking him to fix them at no extra charge. He paid attention to details and aesthetics. His work was of excellent quality. He is easily the best professional I have employed at my house. I highly recommend him. Super guy!!!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Corning, NY

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
