"Had a leaking 2nd story window that was dripping water into the room below. Turns out that because the window was not first installed properly, it had rotted out and had created the problem. Fichtner was the only company that diagnosed the problem correctly and provided a reasonable quote. After using the team from Fitchner I had decided to get a roofing quote from them about a year later. This was even after I thought I had found a roofing guy (See one of my older posts). After comparing roofing quotes I decided to go with Fitchner because of the size of the job, along with their outstanding quality and reasonable pricing. The entire team did a great job."

"I had a great experience with Glen Burnie Roofing to replace my roof. They were responsive to emails and phone calls. The estimate process was straightforward and transparent, with Mike answer all my questions clearly. Their prices were reasonable and competitive. Overall, I found working with Glen Burnie Roofing, especially Mike, to be a smooth and easy process for a pretty typical roof replacement."

"A roof leak was discovered in August, made several calls to roofers only to be told they either were only doing repairs for existing customers or not at all, finally found Welsh through friends. Welsh came out the next day to assess the leak and recommended a stop gap repair until the roof could be replaced. The repair was done quickly. There were no signs of it leaking after the repair. The roof was replaced by Welsh as soon as they had an opening 2 months later. We got several other estimates that were much higher for the exact same shingles and scheduling further out. The work was all done in one day, we had a Certainteed shingle system installed. It looks good and we no longer hear the rain on the roof and there are no signs of leaking. Not being roof experts, we can't know for sure about the quality but there are lots of warranties from both Welsh and Certainteed. Overall, it was a good experience. The company is very busy and having some office support would help with communication."

"A roofer arrived at my place around 1pm (same day as my phone call). He examined the drywall and examined the roof. He quickly determined that what I was seeing was actually yellowed tape where pieces of drywall had been joined together showing through the less than adequate paint job. I'm sure he was right. The stain was a perfectly straight line and my original home renovator did a sloppy job. I was embarrassed that I had called him out, but he was very polite about it. Horizon Roofing is awesome, and I would recommend them to anyone!"

"Had a leak, replaced roof at their suggestion. Service was prompt. <br /> <br /> Misgiving is that I contacted him today regarding a leak in the same spot. Was told they're no longer in the area and that the roof is not under warranty. I find this puzzling because I see recent reviews here for the provider so I would have thought they'd at least come by and taken a look. <br />"

"Dynamic did an outstanding job.  They removed the original roof and conducted a full inspection which revealed that the original contractor had not met code (flashing, sealing) They corrected all the issues and the final product is outstanding. <br /> Upon completion of the job the crew cleaned up the yard as if they had never been there.  They even used a large magnet to pick up any nails which may have fallen onto the grass.   <br /> Excellent work, Thank you Dynamic."

"Lucky for me, a recent windstorm ripped off my gable fascia. I say lucky because my insurance adjuster brought with him Randall Specht from ReBuild Inc. He also inspected my 3-yr old roof and, although there was no wind damage, Mr. Specht identified shortcuts taken by my original roofing firm –shortcuts I would never have seen nor had the knowledge to identify. According to the shingle manufacturer, those shortcuts were not in accordance with their approved installation methods; problems would not have been covered by my warranty nor would any resulting damage. Although Mr. Specht was brought in only to identify potential wind damage, his professionalism and patient detailed explanation provided me with enough information to intelligently discuss the installation issues with the manufacturer and my original roofing firm. Then, after the original roofer “fixed” his installation errors, I had additional questions about the repair quality. Although I am a civil engineer, I am not knowledgeable about roofing practices. Recalling how professional Mr. Specht was, I contacted him again. He was as generous with his time & explanation as he was originally. Kudos to ReBuild!! Mr. Specht’s professionalism – his honesty, customer service and…kindness -- speaks volumes about him and ReBuild. He went out of his way to ensure I could have my original roofer fix my roof correctly, even though nothing was in it for him or for his firm. This company is what we always hope for we get when we hire a contractor; they will be the first one I call when I have a remodeling project or need a repair done. They are the ones I will recommend to my friends and neighbors."

"Major Exterior Remodel: Siding, Windows, Doors, Gutters, etc! LS&G was easy to work with, did fantastic work, and had a very competitive price. Here’re the details. After talking to several contractors about my exterior remodel, some taking hours of my time, I met with Rick from LS&G. We went over my goals in about 15 minutes, he took some measurements, and sent me an estimate a few days later. No pushy sales tactics! His price was very competitive, but I was weary of working with the smaller company. After reading many great reviews I decided to move forward with LS&G. We did Acadia Windows (a local window company), ProVia doors, and Alside Ascend siding (a composite vinyl available in a wide plank). The windows and doors were done by one crew in one day! The siding crew was also fantastic - great attention to detail. Rick and/or the Owner, Dayson, were at my house daily to check on the progress and ensure everything went smoothly. The only delays on the project were my own fault - we decided to get custom shutters which took over a month to arrive. The guys came back out to install them and pointed out to me that the shutters I ordered were a little too large. So I ordered another set of shutters, and Rick was very accommodating to have the guys come back out again to install the right shutters, nearly two months after the rest of the work was done. I can’t say enough good things about LS&G. A lot of their reviews are for one door, or a few windows, but I can assure you they can handle a major exterior project, at a highly competitive price point."

"Joe Call and his team did a great job at a competitive price. Joe was responsive in taking calls, estimating the job, and in scheduling the work. His company uses top notch GAF materials and his crew is an experienced team certified in GAF installations. Clean-up was done continuously during the job and very thorough. I'll be using JCServices again to replace the roof on an investment property I own."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Curtis Bay, MD

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
