"This is a little overdue, but wanted to thank Steve F. for coming out to repair a shingle on my roof with such short notice. In late April, we had a borderline severe storm roll through the area and when I came from work that afternoon I had noticed a couple of deadwood limbs fell on my roof and onto the ground below. A piece of the limb (and not very big at all) had punctured a shingle (top layer only) on my barely 2-yr old roof (that Fichtner also installed in 2017). The next day, Steve came out and replaced the punctured shingle very quickly. Though late, I just wanted to take the time to say thanks! It's great to have Fichtner Services around in the local area!"

"Welsh Roofing installed my new 2,400 square foot roof on March 20, 2019. I found them first in Howard County's Best Pick Report, and then cross-referenced with Angie's List. I got two other estimates, and Welsh was the least expensive. I dealt exclusively with Jack for the entire project. He came out and provided the initial estimate and was onsite for the majority of the installation. Jack was a pleasure to deal with. He responded quickly to my questions and worked with me to schedule the install at a time convenient for me. Jack and his 5-man crew showed up on-time at 7AM and began to strip the roof. Everything around the perimeter of the house was covered to protect from falling debris — shrubs, air conditioner, deck. Deck and patio furniture were moved out of the way. The shingles were delivered and craned onto the roof by 9AM. They worked throughout the day. The roof was installed, site cleaned up, and everyone gone by 4PM. No damage to the lawn, landscaping, or any other part of the house. The project went exactly as it was promised. I am completely satisfied. I would use Welsh again, and would recommend them to others."

"A roofer arrived at my place around 1pm (same day as my phone call). He examined the drywall and examined the roof. He quickly determined that what I was seeing was actually yellowed tape where pieces of drywall had been joined together showing through the less than adequate paint job. I'm sure he was right. The stain was a perfectly straight line and my original home renovator did a sloppy job. I was embarrassed that I had called him out, but he was very polite about it. Horizon Roofing is awesome, and I would recommend them to anyone!"

"Had a leak, replaced roof at their suggestion. Service was prompt. <br /> <br /> Misgiving is that I contacted him today regarding a leak in the same spot. Was told they're no longer in the area and that the roof is not under warranty. I find this puzzling because I see recent reviews here for the provider so I would have thought they'd at least come by and taken a look. <br />"

"Dynamic did an outstanding job.  They removed the original roof and conducted a full inspection which revealed that the original contractor had not met code (flashing, sealing) They corrected all the issues and the final product is outstanding. <br /> Upon completion of the job the crew cleaned up the yard as if they had never been there.  They even used a large magnet to pick up any nails which may have fallen onto the grass.   <br /> Excellent work, Thank you Dynamic."

"Rebuild was excellent to deal with. With the recent wind storm, all of the roofers I contacted were scheduled out. Rebuild kept me informed, set a date and time for the repairs and showed up on time. The repairs were completed in a timely manner and look great. Thanks Rebuild."

"My new home was in need of windows. I contacted LS&G to have them installed. Dayson responded very quickly with an estimate. He came out within days to measure and make sure the windows would fit. We discussed several days that worked for me and set a date for installation as well as a backup plan in case of inclement weather. <br>They arrived on time and were so nice and professional. <br>The installation was fast and efficient. They cleaned up the installation mess and left only after making sure we were satisfied with the job. Using them saved me over $1,000 compared to others. <br> <br>I highly recommend them for any home improvement. They are local and not a big company so you are supporting a local business. I will contacting them in the future to replace my roof and siding when it is time. <br> <br>Thank you LS&G for such a great job!! <br> <br>"

"I don’t usually write recommendations, but rarely do you come across an individual or company that takes this much pride in his workmanship and instills these same qualities into his employees, and it shows. Joe Call is a local contractor who was recommended to my wife and I and we are very happy with our roof and gutters that JC Services installed. Joe and his team were prompt, professional and extremely courteous throughout the entire job. They worked diligently and quickly while taking every precaution to ensure all the debris was disposed of properly. The job was meticulously maintained. The entire experience was positive and hassle free. If you are looking for a professional and experienced local roofer, gutter, and siding expert, JC Services is without a doubt the best choice for the job. JOSEPHCALL@CALLJCSERVICES.COM"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Curtis Bay, MD

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
