"I had a lot of dead spots in my lawn from the Great Drought of 2012. Brad came out, assessed the situation, and made a recommendation that he do core aeration, over-seeding using a slicer/slit seeder, and fertilize the new seed. The new grass came up looking beautiful in the fall. I got tons of compliments on the way my lawn recovered. I'll definitely be using his services again this fall, as will several of my friends."

"They did a lawn aeration and overseed but it was not effective.  Doing it in the spring was not ideal in the first place but I followed all of their instructions for follow-up and it still did not work in bringing back the grass. <br />"

"I had just recently had my lawn fertilized, so the gentlemen that arrived with Kessinger Lawn Care were not able to overseed my yard for fear tht the fertilizer will kill any new grass.  Regardless, they were very friendly and completed the work of aerating my yard quickly.   I would defintely re-hire them this fall for the same service; only better planning on my part was needed. <br />"

"King's provided an estimate within 2 days of our request for mulch. We needed mulch around an electrical box and backyard and wanted the mulch installed and not dumped on a newly power washed and sealed driveway. King's truck delivered the mulch and then was installed with the help of a little tracker like vehicle that worked efficiently and never left a mark on my lawn, but brought the mulch to the proper location. The work was done in 45 minutes and looked fabulous. The estimator recommended 8 yards of mulch, but my husband felt we would only need 5 yard. I believe that she was new to that job so when they brought out 8 yards and only used 5 yards Kings was going to charge us of 8 yards. But when my husband explained that it was King's that had said 8 yards, but we felt 5 yards was right. They then charged us for the 5 yards. We were very happy with the job that King's did. They were professional, prompt and offer a superior produce."

"Always a good experience with R V Hallam. Dustin is very personable and easy to work with and always teaches me something. He truly seems to care about his customers and their homes. We wound up having a problem with the toilet that was installed and they were wonderful about coming out and making everything right. The person we speak to on the phone always stresses that she wants us to be satisfied and they will always work to make everything right. And they absolutely do."

"I contacted Indiana Tractor Services to get an estimate for our church on bush hogging of our detention pond. There is a minor incline on the outside of the pond. Brian came to the property and we discussed the job. He answered all of my questions and explained in detail how he would do the job. We set up a day the following week and he came and completed the job exceptionally well. He was very conscious of driving his tractor on our property as well as not making ruts in the bottom of the work area. It was a pleasure to work with this company and we look forward to using their services in the future. Brian gave very special attention to our unique needs."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Darlington, IN

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
