"Short: Great team, great crew. Thorough, thoughtful, responsive, reasonable, and skilled. They did a great job on our bathroom repair and remodel, despite short notice and having to squeeze us into an already busy schedule. I know how hard it is to find a contractor you're legitimately HAPPY with. This is that contractor. Long: Our shower pipes (behind the wall) in our condo apparently had been leaking for some time, and the downstairs neighbors' ceilings were getting destroyed. We needed to get the work done fast but right; we'd just bought a house, and were tying to put the condo on the market. I asked my colleagues for a contractor referral, and they RAVED about Carlos and Chuck at Built Right, whom they had used for a major house remodeling. They'd heard about Built Right from their friends, who'd also used them for a major home remodel. Despite the short notice, given the circumstances, Carlos scheduled us in and got a team in to gut our bathroom, find the leak, and replace the corroded pipes. From there, they put in a new shower/tub, floor tiles, and shower tiles, and repainted the vanity and bathroom walls. Our once dated bathroom now looks great! This was our first time embarking on a project like this; Carlos and team were hands on and guided us through the process. They met us at Lowe's and helped us pick out the floor and wall tiles and grouts. If you know what you're doing, you can pick up all of the materials yourself. But if you need a hand, Built Right goes the extra mile to make sure the project is working for you, and isn't bottlenecked by a bunch of errands you might not have time to run and aren't confident about doing right. They also worked around our needs and budget. In this case, we weren't looking to make the fanciest dream bathroom, so they helped us pick materials and a style that looked nice and would last without breaking the bank. No upselling for unnecessary frills. Work was done quickly and carefully. It took 2 weeks, but only because the July 4 holiday fell right in the middle. I strongly recommend Built Right. Our new house has a variety of small and large work that needs to get done; we're happy to have Built Right on our side for that work too!"

"My experience with Westshore Roofing was very positive. Our estimator, Steve, was pleasant, informative, and helpful. He stayed in touch with us throughout the project to keep us updated on next steps. The crews were polite and arrived on time. Work was finished relatively quickly - we did have a few delays due to a minor misunderstanding. However, Paul, the owner, did a great job keeping us updated on the delay and communicating next steps. Our needs and concerns were heard, taken seriously, and responded to quickly. Ultimately, although the job took a little longer than expected, I am very pleased with the work done by Westshore and their dedication to communication and customer satisfaction."

"I originally needed to get my roof redone as part of a solar installation project, and the solar company referred me to Cosmic Roofing as their preferred partner. Due to the unusual roof slope on my house, several other companies had turned me down for this project. Cosmic sent me David A. to go over the initial conversation of the project. We talked about work streams, dates, expectations, areas of concern, and of course the price. He showed me sample tiles, colors, materials, and explained some items that I hadn't taken into account, such as adding new vents to pass the permit process. I felt like David really understood what needed to be done and how he would tackle it. That was why I felt comfortable signing a work order right away. The tiles were delivered within days, which I was pleasantly surprised at. The roof installers came the next day, and did their job efficiently. Permits were reviewed the same week, and I officially had a new roof in less than a month's time. It's commendable how efficient this company is. My house is now noticeably cooler on sunny days because David recommended the white roof tiles. Of course, the fast speed made it easy for the solar company to do their installation too. We're very happy to have worked with Cosmic Renovation and Roofing. It wasn't until I spoke with David that I found out they also do solar installations. I might've had them make a bid for the solar work as well, but since I had already decided on someone else, it wasn't in the cards. Anyways, if you're looking to add solar to your roof, give Cosmic a call for a quote."

"Excellent job from Manuel and his crew with coordination by Jordon Lovett. They showed up on time, worked very hard and were very trustworthy. Job started in December so they worked around the rain even working on a Saturday, they kept us updated on the schedule and with pictures of the work. We needed to replace our aging tar and gravel roof, Jordon recommended Polyglass (modified bitumen roof membranes). We upgraded to add insulation as our house had none, extra time and materials were needed to build up the fascia due to the extra height. We added a new sun tunnel which is amazing, bringing light into our apartment. For ease of inspection access, we also added a roof hatch. We are very satisfied with their professionalism and excellent work."

"Called them after seeing a special offer on an infomercial. I've had solar panels for over 15 years, which I installed myself, so I'm probably more informed on what I needed vs. what they were trying to sell. To my pleasant surprise, the package that the sales rep put together was in line with what I wanted. Since this was in addition to the existing panels, which already occupied the prime roof area, the planning and layout was probably more challenging than a standard job. Since PD is a big organization, sales, planning and permitting, and installation were all handled by different departments, but we had a single coordinator that was in communication with us by phone and email as we went through each stage. They were great in getting through the planning and approvals, especially with getting the information for our HOA and interfacing with PG&E. The main installation of the panels and wiring was completed in less than a day! (It took me several days to install my first system, 15 years ago.) After a couple of quick returns to install an additional ground rod and install the monitoring interface, we were done. The improvements in the panels and supporting electronics over the last 15 years is impressive. One of the key factors in deciding to add the extra panels was the low-interest financing. With a 12-year loan, the loan payment is essentially offset by the reduced electricity bill (since it's adding to my exiting system, the savings aren't as great as a new install), but I know that these panels can keep producing way past the last loan payment. But, the main reason I added the panels was to cut down on fossil power. I don't consider myself a tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination, but if I can help slow the meltdown of the planet, even a little, without any dollars out of my pocket, and eventually same some bucks in the process, why not?"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in El Sobrante, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
