Customers say: Quality work

"CAB Remodeling responded promptly and came out within 24 hours to install our new entry door and storm door. Jose was courteous and very helpful after we had foolishly attempted this job on our own and after struggling with it for two days decided we needed a professional. CAB completed everything beautifully and pricing was extremely fair. I look forward to reaching out in the future and having them back to complete other projects in our house."

"Robert and Jeff did an excellent job installing recessed lights and fans in 4 rooms amidst a crowded workspace as a crew of painters followed behind them and sometimes worked alongside them simultaneously. Robert was flexible and accommodating as I was initially indecisive with how many can lights were needed. He made helpful recommendations and also repaired a light that a handyman was unable to restore to working order. Robert's rates are reasonable and I appreciate how he has accommodated delivery delays. I will definitely continue to call on him for future projects!"

"I was replacing all of my basement windows because the wood frames were rotten in places and had lead paint. The previous basement windows were really high quality of a type that doesn't exist anymore (hoppers that open in and from the bottom) but I chose to replace because I didn't want any wood or lead paint left. When I met in person with the salesman, he told me that is what they would do because of course the wood was obviously damaged. The contract said "replacement window, new flashing", which I thought meant what the salesman told me, the entire frame. The person who came to measure called me on the phone, and he told me that all the damaged wood would stay, but I didn't understand him well over the phone. When the windows were actually installed, they left virtually all of the damaged wood and lead paint. They came back today not to make plans to fix anything, just to insist to my face that I was wrong and they were right, and the salesman didn't count."

"Ruben has done many jobs for me: remodeled a 1,500 square feet condo. Did all plumbing, electrical, bathroom, flooring, & painting. Was able to get through condo construction guidelines easily & it’s not an easy place to do business. I highly recommend Ruben for any type of work. He’s reliable, honorable, skilled, & fairly priced Ruben remolded a bathroom of mine at another location & was excellent Ruben repaired a bathroom leak at another property & was excellent Ruben replaced a mirror, installed dishwasher, fixed closet door, & painted at another one of my properties All buildings require insurance & aren’t the easiest to work in. Ruben had no problem. I highly recommend him for any type of work he’s highly skilled & go do everything "

FAQs for doors (exterior) installation and replacement projects in Evanston, IL

Modern steel doors incorporate protective coatings and finishes that significantly reduce rust potential. These treatments create effective moisture barriers when properly maintained. Small scratches or damage should be promptly addressed with touch-up paint to prevent moisture from reaching the underlying metal.

Doors in coastal or high-humidity environments benefit from additional protective measures and more frequent inspection. With proper care, most steel doors resist corrosion for decades.

Steel doors provide superior resistance against forced entry attempts compared to fiberglass alternatives. The inherent strength of steel creates a formidable barrier that resists impacts and tampering more effectively than composite materials.

While high-quality fiberglass doors offer reasonable security, steel provides an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and structural integrity. For maximum protection, look for steel doors with reinforced strike plates and multi-point locking systems.

Most manufacturers provide warranties covering manufacturing defects for periods ranging from five to 15 years, depending on the product line and quality tier. Hardware components often carry separate warranty coverage, often for shorter durations. Installation services may include workmanship guarantees covering proper fitting and operation. Always review warranty documentation carefully to understand coverage limitations and maintenance requirements that might affect warranty validity.

Provided your existing wood frame remains structurally sound and properly aligned, professional installers can often adapt a steel door to fit. The process requires careful measurement and potentially minor modifications to accommodate the new door's specifications. The frame must provide adequate support for the heavier steel door construction. A qualified installer will evaluate your current frame's condition and recommend appropriate adjustments to ensure proper function and security.
