"I had multi-years of yard debris, a broken lawn swing, last year’s fall clean-up piled for removal and a 10’ by 40’ old wooden deck for demolition and removal. There were also sprinklers which were broken from last season and no one would respond for repair. Established lawn maintenance companies failed me with no response—too busy. These are credible and self-driven individuals who want to make a success of their business. They know that word of mouth is the best source of new work. I have a stack of their business cards for distribution in an effort to spread the word to hire this company for many handy-jobs. If your needs are not listed on their business cards—ask them. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at their experience in construction, lawn maintenance, and indoor cleaning. "

"We were very impressed with how everyone in the company worked together. The owner arrived on time to look over what we wanted, took the time to understand and help <em>us </em>understand what could be done and therefore what we <strong>really </strong>wanted. For instance, I thought a squared-off arrangement would make it easier (and cheaper) to build. He assured us that a curved edge against the lawn would look better and wouldn't be that difficult to do. He was right, it looked a lot better. He spent time taking measurements and figuring materials, then gave us an estimate that turned out to be very accurate; i.e., there were no surprises later. He wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive; we chose him more because the way he presented himself and the care he took understanding what we wanted and designing the layout, than because of the price.  <br /> It took a little time to get the materials ordered and for his people to finish an ongoing job, but everything and everyone arrived when they were supposed  to. He had one master craftsman and several helpers. They got the bed for the pavers compacted and leveled with meticulous care. I have laid pavers myself in a small area and I know that this is the most critical aspect of the job, the bed must be built up and compacted properly to prevent sinking later, it must be sloped just right away from the house for water to run off, and it must be flat or the pavers won't appear to be level with each other later. They did everything perfectly.  <br /> It was quite fun to watch the master workman fit the pavers together. Each was placed just so and tapped lightly into place. Where the new pavers met the old at the existing pathways, he selected pavers that were close to the same color as the old pavers, pulled some of the old ones up and mixed them with the new so the color would blend. At the joining of the old and new, he carefully cut and arranged each paver to blend the old and new so there were no gaps or height differences. In the 15 feet or so of the curved section, he carefully beveled each paver to fit with the adjacent ones and create a smooth curve without gaps. He often sawed the edges of a paver several times until he was satisfied with the fit. The result was a beautiful, smooth curve that met one of the old paver walks just right. <br /> The finishing work was done just as carefully. Once the pavers were all down, they were once again compacted, often with a hand tamper. He locked the pavers in place with several stages of sanding, compacting, putting down more sand and compacting again. Finally he used a sealing sand that hardened when wet.  <br /> The end result of all this work was a gorgeous patio that complements the house and looks like the professional job that it was. <br /> All this time the workmen showed up on time every morning, took a carefully timed lunch, and sometimes stayed a little after quitting time to finish something up. They even worked in the rain, donning rain gear and continuing to lay pavers. The owner showed up often to check and work on any issues. The needed materials were always delivered when they were needed but without having piles of raw materials strewn all over the place; everything always looked neat.  <br /> When the job was done, they left a little extra material "just in case." They explained how to take care of the new patio and who to call if any problems arose. Their final price was exactly what we had agreed to, but in addition the owner offered to purchase, at his price, some wall blocks that I wanted to use to build a planter wall and did so. <br /> All in all, we were extremely pleased with the whole project, not in the least due to the skills and hard work of the guys doing the job! We would definitely hire them again, and we wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone contemplating any landscaping project. <br />"

"Due to the wind storm we had neither power nor water so Landon , the owner, supplied both without complaint or extra charge. the entry pad had sunk about 2 inches nearest the cabin, causing any rain or snow melt to drain toward the cabin , saturating our lower exterior wood siding and sending water into our partially finished basement. He lifted the pad gradually ,without any cracking, nearest the cabin , so any water now runs off away from the cabin and foundation. Landon was friendly, professional and efficient, explaining any questions thoroughly. <br />"

"Alderwood Landscape is an exceptional company to work with in all respects. Our experience was positive from start to finish. The landscape architect was especially good at listening to our need/want list and incorporating them into a beautiful and realistic plan. He met with us at least 4 times to help refine the plan and make whatever changes we came up with. He was always very patient and happy to do it, genuinely concerned about making sure that we were happy with the plan. He was also very conscientious about making it all work within our budget. The work crew surpassed all expectations and were extremely professional. There was a project manager on site at all times working in conjunction with 2 crew men. They arrived on time every day and worked hard the entire time they were here. The job site was always cleaned up and orderly when they left at the end of each day. They were fast but very proficient!! The project was completed in just under two weeks. We are extremely happy with the quality of the workmanship and also the materials they used. They were always happy to make any changes we might suggest and were great at problem solving when needed. They all took great pride in their work and showed a high level of dedication to our project. This company really is all about making sure the client is happy and goes to great lengths to make that happen. We could not be happier with the final result, it is everything we wanted it to be. We wouldn't hesitate to hire this company again or to recommend them to everyone we know. In addition, all of their work carries an exceptional guarantee and they have no problem returning to address any issue you might have. Fantastic company!!"

"Pacific Garden Design was a joy to work with. We overlook a barren hill, and had short, sickly shrubs and plants. Our neighbor on one side has an unsightly fence, and our soil is quite sandy. It was a challenge for them, but this winter they worked out a design that included: adding a Tsukubai water feature and rock garden along that fence, stamped concrete edging, a stone bench along the corner of our property overlooking the hill, softly billowing plants that give us a natural border with the hill, an evergreen oasis at the other corner of our property, and spectacular stone steps that lead you from the front of the house to our backyard. It took a while (our weather has been most uncooperative), but throughout the experience they have been attentive, thoughtful, and listened to what we wanted. Sometimes it seemed as if they had read our minds. Now at the end, they feel more like friends (or even family). I would not hesitate to have them back next year to help us with our front yard. All we're waiting for are a few loose ends to tie the project up. Working with them has been a joy! Melissa, Tom, and Fabian---thank you so much!"

"A very impressive company. Daniel met us at our home within one day of our request for an estimate. He told us what the work would entail and answered all of our many questions. He was able to schedule the job within 10 days thereafter. He ALWAYS returned our phone calls before and during the job. We had met with two other paving companies and were unimpressed with both of them. Black Diamond crew and equipment arrived exactly when expected. Daniel texted us that morning to advise that he would be 10 minutes late. He arrived 10 minutes later. They prepped the existing driveway thoroughly and worked incessantly on two very hot days. Our driveway includes a basketball area, and a fork off to a pole barn. They had to remove several sections of the driveway that had deteriorated with age, then they built up those areas and lastly put down 1 1/2+ inches of asphalt over the entire 8,450 sq ft . It was a major undertaking and not inexpensive. We had never had to contract for asphalt paving before. It looks fantastic. It has enhanced our entire property."

"Work went fine. Ed wasnt able to get the two exterior doors adjusted more (they look like they were sagging in the jam orignally), and the front door actually looked a little and quot;worseand quot; than it did before the adjustment. Thermostat replacement and closet door adjustment went great. The bathroom faucet needed new parts to stop the leak. While Ed was working on other stuff, I went and got replacement parts (universal fit per Ace Hardware), only to have Ed work on faucet for over 1/2 hour and still not be able to stop the leak. Ed said I needed to get geuine Moen parts and then showed me how to reinstall them myself. Ed also said that if I had trouble getting the facuet back to gether to give him a call and he would drop by and do it because it would be only a and quot;5 minuteand quot; deal. Ed spend 2 hours at my house and charged me $10 less than his actual 2 hours I owed him. I assumed that was because he could actually fix the facuet. After he left I got the Moen parts, but was unable to get it back together myself. I tried to call Ed several times and left messages to have him call and come by to help me. (This was the Friday before Labor Day, so I assume to was out of town). I couldnt use the faucet for the long weekend, which was fine, however, when Ed did call me back and and quot;stop by on Tuesday morning (1/2 hour later than he said he would be here), he charged me $35.00 for the 10 minutes he was here. I was not expecting if free, but I didnt think I should be stuck for a full hours labor (If I new that, I would have found another 50 minutes of work for him to do, so I got 1 hours work for 1 hours pay. Ed did a good job and was very nice and didnt waste time when he was here working. I would recommend him, but be clear that both parties know what is expected and the cost of it. <br />"

FAQs for interlocking pavers for patios, walks & steps installation projects in Fernwood, ID

To calculate your paver needs:

  • Determine how many pavers cover a square foot.

  • Determine how many square feet you need.

  • Add an additional 10% to 20% for breakage and waste.

  • Consider your pavers’ sizes.

Or, you can hire a local pro who you know will get the right measurements the first time. This way, you get your weekend back instead of spending it measuring square footage.

A pallet of pavers costs $300 to $700 on average, and each pallet covers 56 square feet. The exact price depends on the type, size, and quantity of pavers you choose. Buying in bulk can sometimes offer additional savings, especially for larger projects. Ask your pro how you can save on material costs.

To get the best prices on pavers:

  • Hire a professional landscaper: Pros often receive discounts on materials, which can make hiring them more cost-effective overall.

  • Shop at local building supply stores: Check for overstock or bulk purchase deals. Bulk purchasing can be more costly up front but save you money in the long run.

  • Buy directly from manufacturers: Purchasing from a local brickyard or paver factory can offer competitive prices, especially for large quantities.

The main difference between driveway pavers and patio pavers is their load-bearing capacity. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles, whereas patio pavers aren’t suitable for such heavy loads. You can use driveway pavers for a patio, but using patio pavers for a driveway could lead to damage. Always check the weight limits of pavers and consult with a professional installer to choose the right type for your project.

Paver patios cost more than concrete patios because the materials and installation methods require advanced techniques and skilled labor. They deliver enhanced aesthetic appeal and allow for easier small‑scale repairs without affecting property taxes. The higher expense arises from premium paver materials and intricate installation processes that deliver long‑lasting durability and design flexibility. This robust solution provides notable benefits over concrete alternatives, making it a valuable investment for homeowners.
