"I called for an estimate on a new roof and he came that afternoon with color samples. We needed 2 old power vents removed, and an old chimney vent removed. The old roof had to be removed and some decking replaced. Work crew of 6 arrived as scheduled and went right to work. They cleaned up as they worked. New roof looks great and the final cleanup was very thorough. I would not hesitate to recommend Estes for roofing."

"We got lucky and found an honest, efficient, and quality roofer – Stephen Goulet I have been among the most critical of the roofing companies that have descended upon South Alabama since Hurricane Sally. Like all of our neighbors, we have been besieged with offers of “free roof inspections.” Last week, we received the 29th offer for a free roof inspection. The roofing companies that have suddenly appeared in our area either don’t have licenses or have their first license issued this year. Most of them want you to assign the claim to them for “your convenience.” This means they are authorized to REPRESENT YOU with you insurance company in pursuing YUOUR claim. They bring in their own adjusters. They do not use an adjuster chosen by your insurance company. And as if all that was not enough, as they replace your roof they ALWAYS find more problems that result in modifications to the original claim (read: increase the claim). So, we hated it when we realized we needed a roof after the storm. We got our roof patched and then started looking for a reputable roofer. Which brings me to the reason for this post. After considerable research and talking to neighbors, we decided to go with Stephen Goulet Roofing, 2703 Bay Branch Drive, Daphne AL 36526, telephone 251-509-3375. Stephen came out, measured our roof, and gave us a price. He did not mention our insurance. He did not ask for any money down. None of this, “I need half for materials” nonsense. We authorized him to put the roof on. His folks came out and before they started they put HUGE tarps down around the house to catch the roofing materials during tear off. They wrapped the columns on our porch with tarps so they would not be damaged. They moved everything away from the house that could be moved, away from the house. This included a couple of planters that were 300 pounds. The meticulous prep work that they did was amazing. They put down the peel and stick underlayment and then put on the new roof. They replaced every single drip edge. They replaced our old horrible ridge vents with ones that actually work. Our attic is now a good 20 degrees cooler than it was. They cleaned up the area thoroughly, including our gutters. The gutters are the cleanest they have been since they house was built. When they finished Stephen asked for exactly the amount of the original quote. No hemming and hawing about how they had to do this or that extra work during the process. And there WAS extra work that they did. He did not ask for extra money. We paid him the amount of the original quote and that it. I've included several pictures of the work in process so you can see the care they took to protect the area around our house. Also a couple pictures that before and after so you can compare the old roof to the new roof. We are very happy. And it is a GREAT ROOF! Mike Willis"

"I have known Charlie Sapp for years and have referred many folks to him for roofing needs. When it came time for me to have a new roof I knew who to call. The crew removed and replaced the roof with the best products available and finished a 2150 square roof foot in 1 day. The clanged and upgraded the chimney flashing and many other smaller improvements. Courteous, thoughtful and respectful is how his company and crew operates and still being competitively priced. I would recommend Charlie Sapp Construction for any roofing needs."

"Courteous, punctual, reasonable. Island Roof Repair did an excellent job repairing the flashing on our roof and which had been incorrectly installed and caused some damaging leaks at different points in our roof. They showed up the next day after we called them. When leaving, after inspecting the roof, they gave us a comprehensive report of what’s wrong, what needs to be done to fix it and promised an estimate within 24 hours. They were very accommodating about working around our rental schedule. We had one day last week when we had no guests and they swooped in, did the job quickly and efficiently and we are extremely pleased with them. Call Cyle - you won’t be disappointed in Island Roof Repair!"

"From the estimate, where all my questions were answered to questions asked while making my decision, Freeman stood out far and above all the other Roofing Companies. My roof was put on yesterday. Prompt on time arrival through to the clean up of all material, including looking for any fallen nails with a metal detector, I am more than happy with Freeman Roofing. Would recommend them to everyone."

"I thought they did a good job but when I had some follow up work done I was told that they did not do the flat roof correctly. However, I have had no problems with it and that was over a year ago and we have had torrential rains. They cleaned the area thoroughly and you could not find an old tile or a nail in the yard. <br />"

"Great people to deal with. Prompt response for estimate. Gave the best price compared to others I received estimates from. Got right on the job. Got my old roof up to specs, complying with new guidelines. Needed a small repair, thus only a small increase over estimated price, (did not know extent of repair/update until they got on the job. Very fair.). Honest, knowledgeable, hard working crew, very thorough. A professional outfit overall. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Foley, AL

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
