"Of the 3 companies that reached out to work on my project, Act 3 reached out first. I spoke with him on the phone and explained my project - mounting a 77 inch tv to the wall and concealing the wires behind the wall down to the electrical outlet. He said he had been in this field for 30 years and had done many tv installs. I told him I would contact him once I purchased the tv. I texted him on 11/30/25 and asked if he had availability for the install on 12/1, to which he replied he could be at my house at 6pm. I agreed to this option. On 12/1 at approximately 5pm, he texted me and said he finished up a previous job early and would head to my house to start the project early, with my permission, to which I agreed. He arrived at 5:30pm instead of the agreed upon 6pm, which was fine because he could start the project early. I showed him the tv, which was still in the box, new and unopened and the tv mount, which was also unopened. I explained I did not want to open any boxes so that all of the parts he would need were not missing. After taking the tv mount out of the box, he asked where on the wall would I want the tv mounted, as there is tv stand below. He measured the the tv, the distances between 2 windows where the tv would be mounted, and the distance from the tv stand (which is a wooden desk). He took out a wooden pencil and drew marks on the wall where the top and the bottom of the tv would be once it was mounted. The bottom of the tv was to be approximately 12 inches from wooden table (former tv stand). I agreed to this. He then mounted the tv mount on the wall, which took approximately 8 or 10 drilled holes. After putting all of the bolts in the wall, he realized he had mounted it upside down. He then had to remove all of the bolts from the wall, flip the mount in the correct direction, and redrill the bolts into the wall. After he completed that, I took a few steps back from the wall and noticed that the mount was not level. It was lower on the left side. In the meantime, he went over to the tv to prepare to pick it up and put it on the mount. I then asked him if he thought the mount was level. He took his leveler device and put it on top of the mount. It did indeed show that it was NOT level, it was lower on the left side. He asked if I wanted to have it level. This shocked me - of COURSE I wanted it level. So, he had to loosen several bolts to lift the left side of the mount up to be more level. Next, he lifted the tv and placed it onto the mount on the wall. (I should mention that the previous owners of the house appeared to have placed wires BEHIND the wall to conceal them and had covered the bottom portion of the wall with an square wall plate. We agreed that he would remove this square plate and feed my tv's wires through there to connect with the electrical outlet at the bottom. I also wanted to conceal the cords and not have them be exposed on the walls.) I took a few steps back from the mounted tv and observed that it was too high - the bottom of the tv was several inches above the pencil mark he made on the wall. I then asked him if he thought the tv looked too high, to which he replied that he placed it on the wall according to the measurements we agreed on. He then became agitated and asked if I wanted him to reposition the mount. I am a female and he is a male. It was already dark outside and I did not want to turn the situation into a debate. He already had to remove the mount and reposition it twice and I sensed he was in a rush, almost as if he did not want to be there and I did not feel safe suggesting any other changes. I told him to finish the job. Next he drilled a hole into the wall behind the tv so that he could feed it down to the exiting wall plate. He drilled one hole which was not big enough for the tip of the tv power cord, so he then drilled more onto the existing hole to make it bigger. The hole looks atrocious - yes, it is behind the tv but it looks very unfinished. He said no one would see it because it is behind the tv and he could plaster it but then the tv power cord would be plastered in. I told him not to plaster the cord to the wall. He then had much difficulty trying to feed the power cord down the wall to the existing wall plate, due to the insulation being in the way."

FAQs for holiday lighting add or remove projects in Fountain Hills, AZ

If climbing ladders or handling wiring isn’t in your comfort zone, hire a pro. Look for installers who post clear per-foot or hourly rates, carry insurance, and have solid reviews. Comparing at least three quotes helps you spot fair pricing without sacrificing safety. Skipping credentials to save a few dollars can cost you far more in repairs, so pick a qualified team and enjoy a safe, eye-catching display.

Yes, booking between February and September often scores lower rates because demand is light and pros have open calendars. You might even negotiate a discount package that includes removal or storage. If the budget is tight, ask whether a handyperson or an off-season permanent-light install makes sense for your home and timeline.

Determining the number of holiday lights for your house depends on your home’s size and specific decorative vision. Your project requires 10 to 20 light strands for a basic exterior display, with 100 lights allocated for eaves and an additional 10 to 20 bulbs for each awning.

For trees and substantial shrubs, allocate five to 10 strands per unit to achieve complete and balanced illumination across your property.

Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s a nice way to thank your installer for a job well done. Most homeowners offer 10% to 20% of the total bill or round up to an even figure if the crew exceeds expectations. A small extra goes a long way toward showing appreciation—and may help you snag priority booking next season.

Yes, you can install holiday lights yourself if your property layout is straightforward and your electrical system is secure. Homeowners who are confident in their ability to safely handle wiring and use proper equipment can save money with a DIY approach.

However, it is crucial to test all outlets thoroughly and secure the proper ladders and safety gear before starting. Careful planning and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to protect yourself and your home while achieving an attractive display.

Start by clearing the area of loose debris, damaged shingles, and anything that could trip you up. Test outdoor outlets and, if you’re unsure, bring in an electrician. Use a sturdy extension ladder (or scaffolding for very high spots) and never work alone—having a helper steady the ladder is non-negotiable. Taking these simple steps keeps you, your roof, and your new lights safe.
