"They were wonderful! They were punctual and they cleaned up after themselves. They were the nicest three guys; the owner (Shawn or Shane, I'm not sure what his name was-he has a twin brother) was there every day with the guys working on the roof with them. They went above and beyond, they did things they didn't have to do. They found a board with termite damage and replaced that for me. They helped put in skylights; they did stuff just because they could, they were super. They did things that weren't even on the bid, just as a favor. They were three of the nicest guys I've ever met. They submitted all the paper work, got the permits, and did everything they said they were going to do, and then went above and beyond. Their bid was great, and I have referred them to four other people! They were very personal, and you could see how much pride they took in their work. A different crew ripped off the roof and the owner came out to supervise them to make sure they did a good job and cleaned up after themselves."

"Perhaps the most trusted way to demonstrate one’s belief in a service provider is repeat business. One year later after Colonial Roofing replaced a major section of our house’s roof, we once again hired the company to completely replace a similar size area of our roof. And the results for the second go round are exactly the same as before - Colonial Roofing completed our project on time, on budget, and with the highest level of craftsmanship. I start by mentioning that Colonial Roofing honored the original estimate for this second job, even though that estimate was given one year ago. Obviously, Carl Slater (the main guy at Colonial Roofing) could have cited numerous rising expenses if he chose to change the original estimate for the job, but he did not. Work on our roof began on the initial scheduled date. And the scheduled end date for the project was met without a hitch. It was like Carl and his crew were a roman legion working for Julius Caesar - they came, they saw, they roofed. The crew working for Carl were polite and professional. All were experienced craftsmen doing their job without being a nuisance to us or the neighbors. And this is not faint praise. The roof they were completely replacing was right above my home office. I was able to continue with my normal work routine during the entire project without missing a beat. But of course, the main reason I went with Colonial roofing was because of their stellar craftsmanship. One year later, the first roof replacement shows no signs of any leaks or any problems with the work. The effort on this second roof replacement has all the ear marks indicating the same level of craftsmanship. The bonus when dealing with perfectionists is when Carl and his crew decide to rip up and replace a part of the roof (at no extra cost) just because they wanted to make sure it would not lead to any future problems. I close with a story about a meeting that took place six months ago. My wife and I were talking to a solar power company about installing solar panels at our house. Part of the agreement with the solar company was their right of approval on whatever roofing company we chose for any future repairs. When we showed the Solar company representative the business card for Colonial Roofing, the solar guy immediately said, “I know this guy and his crew, they’re great. We can sign off on them right now.” I love Colonial Roofing. Two times we’ve gone to them for major roofing projects. Our outlay for the two projects has totaled over 20k. And there’s no way we could have spent the money any better than trusting Carl and his crew."

"<p>The house was built in 1977. We replaced the original concrete tile roof. </p> <p>Matt was our primary contact. He walked us through how they would handle the job, quoted a couple of options, ordered sample tiles for us so we could see the colors in person and supplied some addresses in the area where those tiles had been installed so we could see what it would look like.</p> <p>The old roof was removed in a few hours on day one. They installed the new roof over the next two days.</p> <p>Tony and the rest of the guys on the crew were friendly and good about answering questions. They cleaned up around the house each day. I have no complaints. They are very good at what they do.</p> <p>The roof looks great. I would hire them again.</p> <br />"

"I called roof repair specialist, on a Saturday afternoon, after we had the heavy rains in Pasadena. I was greeted by Chris and  he helped me set up a appointment for a inspector to come out and check out my leaks.  <br /> We had 3 separate leaks, one of which was unsuccessfully attempted to be repaired by another roofer in the past.  <br /> Peter came out and identified the 3 leaks right away and gave me a estimate on the spot. I decided to go with them as he really knew what he was talking about. He showed me pictures and gave me a run down of exactly what needs to be done.  <br /> A few days later there tech stopped by and completed the repairs on the roof. I was unable to be home but they assured me that was not a problem. They even sent me before and after pictures to show the work that was done.  <br /> I am completely satisfied with the work that was done. They really did everything possible to make my life just a little bit easier.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

"First, the pros: <br /> 1.  The workmanship on the roof itself was very good.  We have had several significant rainfalls and no issue with leakage. <br /> 2.  The overall cost was competitive, and in fact slightly lower than other bids received. <br /> 3.  The company was willing to work with us on an installment plan that made it easier for us to pay for the new roof. <br /> There were, however, several issues we had with Octagon: <br /> 1. The project took longer than anticipated (about 3 weeks in total).  Some of this was due to extreme heat during the first stages of the project, but even after accounting for these days it still took about a week longer than anticipated.  It took numerous phone calls with the owner to finally get a larger crew on site to finish the work in a timely manner. <br /> 2. Overall, the owner was not very communicative during the project.  It took a lot of proactive phone calls to get updates on the schedule, additional costs, etc.  The owner rarely visited the work site, instead relying on a foreman. <br /> 3.  We had an issue with fascia boards that were installed poorly and not painted to match the white trim of the house.  Ultimately the owner agreed to fix the boards and paint them, but only after repeated calls and us withholding final payment. <br />"

"Wow, where do I even begin. David and his crew are amazing, he went above and beyond our expectations and we can't thank him enough. We needed to quickly convert our garage with attached bonus room to a 2 bedroom ADU for a friend in need during the pandemic and David made sure to do everything in his power to get her and her son moved in quickly under very difficult circumstances with the city being shut down. We can't believe it's the same area, and quite honestly, it's nicer than our house! During the process, David truly became like family to us and we are so grateful for everything he did. If I could give more stars I would"

"Tower removed my wood shake roofing, installed oriented strand board sheathing, felt, edge metal, valley flashing, and the Certainteed "Presidential" style asphalt shingle. They also made repairs to the wood eaves.  I am very satisfied.  There were no surprises, and I was warned in advance of problem areas and repair of them was included in their bid.  I solicited bids from 4 firms and Tower was lowest, including the wood repair that none of the other bidders identified in advance.  They cleaned up each day and kept me informed.  I would recommend them without hesitation."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Goleta, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
