"August 31, 2020 I can't tell you how PLEASED I am to have picked Phillip Matthews from Angie's List. His company is called Elevation Contracting, out of Almont ,Michigan. Phillip is the Owner and Operator of this excellent company. I am 71 years old and widowed and live in my family's 170 year old Centennial farmhouse in Rochester Hills, Mi, With the last storm which brought the most damaging wind and rain it made an awful amount of damage to my roof and the cedar siding. Rain was coming down through my home in the dining room and making its way to my basement. I was horrified and scared. Being alone, I decided to go on Angie's List ( which I trust) and find someone who would come out and help repair my dear beloved farmhouse. I had four companies which were listed and I checked each one that I needed help. The only one I heard from immediately was Phillip Matthews from Elevation Contracting in Almont ,Mi. He was so kind and concerned and said he would be out there to quote and help me immediately. He came out and was the most professional, kind, compassionate, hard working man I have ever seen. He went on my roof and checked the damage and said don't worry I will get this taken care of for you. I wanted to cry. I had contractors before who I called out on different things which I needed help on and they were rude, cold and only cared about telling me how much all the would cost me. Phillip is so down to earth and really is a wonderful person. At 71, I can tell you his parents did a fabulous job raising him. I would recommend this gentleman at Elevation Contracting for ANY project you need completed and done correctly. I give this man the highest recommendation there is. I will use Phillip Matthews for ALL my home projects and have already recommended him to my family and friends. I am so thrilled there are still men out there in this business who will not try and cheat you, and do only what they have to and be gone. "We were not so happy with Happy Painting. <br /> We initially made contact and setup the job for three rooms including ceilings a month in advance, and Happy committed to Wednesday and Thursday to do the three rooms.  They then called us to reschedule to Thursday and Friday which was fine.  Prior to arrival we confirmed the schedule and Happy then changed it again saying they would only be there Thursday, and if they need to they would come Friday.  While we were initially delighted that the job may be complete in one day we were not prepared for this and did not have all the rooms ready.  Happy asked we move everything out and have them ready to paint. <br /> So not the best start but we adjusted and hoped things would get better, unfortunately it was still a slippery slope. <br /> The owner had his team member arrive at 7:30AM or so to tape, and the owner filed in about an hour later.  He surveyed our three rooms and said it was too much space and would have to charge more.  So I got out the tape and measured, and the three rooms were under the total square footage on the Angie's Deal. So he was concerned they would have to work very late to finish and this undertone of their "not making any money on the deal" permeated the day. <br /> They got to work on the ceilings and started doing edges. His team member was painting color over the newly painted ceiling, which I pointed out. This brought concern to the owner and he had to fix it.  Throughout the day where his team member painted the quality was noticeably different.  I pointed out a lot of touch up spots and the owner would have to fix them. <br /> They left at 8 PM or so, and it was a long day. While we recovered, we noticed at least a dozen areas that were showing the old paint and had to touch them up.  Happy also didn't remove the intake vents and just painted over them while they were on the wall which showed horrible coverage.  We removed them and touched them up.  Also, while painting over the vents, a hidden stud was painted over behind the vent exposing it. WeI had to go get black paint and hide this stud again. <br /> While I could have called Happy back to rectify these issues, I was more than mildly annoyed at this point and just did it myself. It was a few hours of work no doubt.  I wouldn't use happy again given all the concerns we had and chose them due to the stellar rating on Angie's list. It looks like others have had better luck so maybe it was just an unhappy day for Happy. <br /> <br />"
