His thorough inspection (from inside and outside) revealed that we had not only lost both chimney caps, but had a severe breakdown of the old, internal terra cotta tiles. He suctioned out the debris, then took a photo upwards to show how badly they had deteriorated. (When we bought this fix-up house we were told that re-sleeving was not needed because we were converting to a gas fireplace.) Joe explained that now, it was necessary to prevent further breakdown & dangerous carbon monoxide buildup. Thank God he came!
