"We were very pleased. They arrived the day after the storm damage to put up the tarp. The work to replace the roof was excellent. They replaced sagging plywood, installed J channel that should have been there, but was not, and did the flashing around the chimney. They covered the landscaping and used magnets to pick up nails. A representative of the company checked the work the day after completion"

"Everything with american standard roofing went great. Their pricing was right in line (or less) than the other 3 quotes I received. The guy giving the estimate did not have a hard sales pitch or some stupid slide show on a tablet. They simply quoted the job and let me make a decision with out any pressure. When it came to install day they came with a massive crew and had all of the work completed within the same day. I had a lot of decking boards that were rotted and needed to be replaced as well. The new roof looks great and it does not leak."

"This was the best contractor that I’ve ever hired Brandon knows what he’s talking about. Obviously he knows about carpentry as well as roofing material. He knew exactly what I needed and he knew exactly what the best product would be for my flat roof. Brandon was very proactive from start to finish. I was pleasantly surprised the entire time. I’m extremely pleased with the final product. The installation process was very professional and very well done. I would recommend this contractor to everyone."

"Received a quote from Chuck last September & when I called in March, they said they’d be out to do the porch repair for the same price, as soon as it was warm enough. A couple weeks later, I received a call on a Friday from Chad saying he’d be able to start work that Monday. He and another guy removed and replaced the large, busted steps without damaging my existing wooden railing, patched and replaced pieces of the cement cap, adding a clean, fresh layer of cement on top, filling a bunch of cracks between bricks that had settled, and reattaching my downspout. These guys went above and beyond and had most of it done in one day. An added bonus - I worked from home that day, and I barely heard a peep. Very respectful, mindful of my property and neighbors. Good-looking, fast work for a reasonable price."

"They replaced a 4,000 foot roof and were fantastic. They brought 3 crew's that all worked at the same time and they were extremely good. They cleaned up afterwards and came back the next day to ensure the job was perfect. There was an area of the roof where the beams were completed rotted out and they replaced them without charging me anything. This took three men nearly 4 hours but again, they never asked for money. I am so happy I used this company."

"Mark is one of the best service providers we’ve ever had work on our house. From the start, he was dedicated to providing us the highest quality customer service possible. He is experienced, knowledgeable, creative, responsive, and willing to work with his clients. His installation team (Tom and Jim) was amazingly skilled, thorough, committed to excellence, and attentive to detail. We were impressed with how diligently all three of them approached their work and how they enjoyed doing it. Mark doesn’t just sell and install windows – he looks at the whole house and identifies ways to create extra value for his customers. When he was walking around our house to inspect the garden window from the outside, he noticed large gaps between our chimney and the house. Mark pointed out that it was really important to get that fixed before a forecasted heavy storm began. He immediately quoted us a very favorable price for both a temporary and permanent fix. When we agreed, he climbed a ladder and began filling the gap even though the ladder wasn’t tall enough and he had to stretch to reach the top. Talk about going the extra mile! As soon as the weather permitted, Mark and Tom brought a longer ladder and completed a permanent fix that is both functional and attractive. Mark treated us with respect and didn’t try to sell us on something we didn’t want. Even our cat really liked him. We love our garden window and would definitely use Mark again if we were to replace any other windows. We understand he’s won a customer service award for several years. We’re happy to report that based on our experience, those awards were well-deserved."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Hazel Park, MI

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
