"I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend BC Exteriors for roof and gutter projects . Very happy with the roof and gutter replacement project they handled on my home. Crews arrive early and perform a clean, precise product installation. But the true selling point is the sales process and project completion. During the the quote, owner Chad Beard, was the only contractor who pointed out issues that needed to be addressed on the home and provided solutions. His explanations were thorough and informative to the point that I had talking points for subsequent quotes from other companies. It made it quite easy to eliminate other options. Both owners were available to answer additional questions prior to starting the project. Stephen, the project manager, was fantastic to deal with. Personable and detail oriented. You’re in good hands if you can’t be on site during the roof installation. Overall, communication is excellent and the entire process is straightforward and efficient."

"Of the dozen or so companies I called, Richards & Swift Roofing was the only one that didn’t try to push unnecessary work or inflate the price. Jim, the owner, personally came out for the quote, a stark contrast to the usual “salesmen” other companies send. Jim told me exactly what needed to be done—no more, no less. He reminded me of my grandfather, who was also in the trade. Both of them are the kind of people whose handshake/word something. Him and his crew replaced my roof and gutters with precision, speed, and care. No stress. No surprises. No shortcuts. Just honest work, done honestly. People like Jim don’t exist anymore. If you need a roofing professional you can trust, this is who you call. When the work was finished the only evidence of it was that my roof looked brand new; he also brought my kids gift bags with stuffed animals and coloring books which is honestly the kind of nicety and thoughtfulness that’s usually missing from the the world. "I had a small job on two corners that needed repair from ice dams and 6’ icicles forming all winter. Most companies wouldn’t even come out to quote such a small job and said it wasn’t worth the trip, but Pure Gutter Solutions gave me a fair quote right away and had the work done in a few hours later that same week. Great work and good customer service at a fair price. Here’s hoping this will fix my winter clogging and ice dam issues."

"I had a contractor put on an entire roof for me in 2009 and for the past 4 years every spring the roof would leak they would send out a subcontractor go up on the roof do some patch work and it would hold until the next spring. This year they sent out Martino Home Improvements first thing Mr. Martino came in the house and inspected all the way to the roof to see where the problem was took pictures inside and out and told the original contractor that they needed to tear off everything including the boards and start from scratch in that area. The project manager Jay kept me informed all along the way and when the crew showed up they were very professional explained what they were going to do put in a whole day of tear off and replacing the wood the underlayment and the shingles cleaned up after themselves and with all the rain we have had here recently we haven't had a leak. <br /> I would highly recommend Martino Home Improvement for roof repair. <br />"

"We used them for remodeling our roof, rear door, and gutters. They were very cost competitive and the install went great. Would definitely recommend and we will be using them for future gone remodeling projects."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Holly, MI

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
