"New windows installed March 2019, siding replaced May 2019, gutters replaced/facia & soffit repair August 2019 and new roofing installed April 2020 at daughter's house in NC. Derek Harts (owner) worked well with me even though I was in another state (KY). Fair price and professional work. Pleasure working with Derek and his crews. Highly recommend."

"Other roofers had indicated that our roof needed to be replaced due to a poor installation; however, JW indicated that the roof was adequate for another 10 years. He repaired a place that the other roofer had supposedly taken care of & wanted to see if that took care of the issue. We were most pleased & relieved. It has been almost a month with no further leaks. We will certainly call JW Roofing when we need our roof replaced. He is a"hands on" roofer who evaluates the work that he is responsible for. We have had others recommend him as well."

"It went great! The quote was competitive with other roofers. Honestly though, I wasn't looking for the cheapest roof/roofer. I wanted a GOOD roof and a good contractor. The person who wrote up the quote was patient and answered all my questions. The work was promptly scheduled and started on time (a little early) and done according to the quote. The project Manager (Clint) was kind, patient, and always available to answer questions or address concerns. I don't think I got his voice mail even once. The roof was done according to the contract, no shortcuts and every detail taken care of as stated. I'm very happy with their service, promptness, professionalism, attention to detail and customer concerns and most importantly, with the new roof. Would definitely use Baker again."

"We had several quotes for the project from local pro's. Noel Smith won the bid hands down. He and his team were very professional, delivered and explained the bid in detail. He provided a warranty for his work, as well as, for the product he installed. He was able to handle additional work to repair exterior damage to soffit, fascia, doors and windows due to rain damage. We were very impressed by their work ethic and efforts to complete the job on time, and on budget. They are a dedicated team, reliable and deliver on their word. We would recommend him to our family and friends."

"The installers arrived on time and were professional in their work. I had done a lot of research on gutter guard systems and determined that the Gutter Dome was the best solution - stainless steel with a mesh that would not pass debris from the roof or pine needles. They finished fairly quickly and appeared to have done a good job. Upon later closer inspection we found some roofing shingles that were left up and several ends that were not finished. We have a "V" joint where the garage roof meets the main house. We were assured that the Gutter Dome would capture the water flow in this corner without a baffle. That turned out not to be the case, so they returned to add a baffle, finish the ends and lay the shingles flat.
Later we found that a light mist or heavy dew would not go through the mesh so we ended up with a constant dripping all around the house. This would not be a problem except that it drips right over the front and rear entrance doors and that moisture freezes in the winter leaving a slick coating of ice. In a heave dew the water collects and runs in rivulets across the surface of the Gutter Dome and over the edge of the gutter. The solution was supposed to be a scrubbing with a detergent such as Simple Green and/or the passage of time. Not so. After over a year it was still dripping. The company is now under new ownership but after an initial miscommunication we had a visit from Will to try to correct the problem. He arrived on time, in fact early enough to observe the dripping. His initial idea was to run a bead of silicone along the surface of the Gutter Dome, but I questioned the longevity of that solution. He ended up installing a 1/4" hand-cut deflector near the edge of the gutter. Unfortunately that didn't help.
After a few more calls and discussions with Kieth and Dan, Will came back and replaced a number of sections of the Gutter Dome with the slightly wider mesh Magna. Water from heavy dew and light rain can more easily get through the Magna's surface and that appears to have taken care of the problem. It's almost impossible to tell where one stops and the other begins except for the drips over the edge of the gutter. No pine needles or debris get through either.
This dripping was not a problem with our old system (which is no longer available) and we were very disappointed with the way this installation had turned out but impressed with Kieth, Dan & Will's willingness to correct it. In the meantime I've changed their responsiveness and overall rating to A's thanks to their efforts. I will say, however that it took numerous calls and quite a bit of time before they did come back (we are 2 hours away from their location but within their service area), so be persistent.
All in all we are happy with the installation and still believe this is the best gutter guard system available. I would not hesitate to use them if we were starting over again."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Holly Ridge, NC

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
