"Ted and his crew were prompt, professional and got the job done in the time estimated. They understand how to deal with permitting, inspections and scheduling each step in the process. Specifically, Ted is very familiar with local nuances in each city, related to inspections. My house, being an older structure with older wiring and an oddly placed riser pole, was not a straight forward project, but it was no problem for the crew. They completed the work as planned, kept a clean job site and were very courteous throughout the project. I was very pleased with the work done by the Apollo and would hire them again and highly recommend them to others."

"I encountered a problem, and called ARP Electric to help diagnose and repair. Ahmed was able to come out the same day (!), even waiting for me at my house when my previous appointment ran long (!!). He was able to diagnose the problem almost instantly - and had me up and running immediately thereafter. The issue was actually due to a dumb mistake on my part, but Ahmed went out of his way to put me at ease, and reassure me about how such things could easily happen to anyone (which was very appreciated). Ahmed was personable, very knowledgeable and capable, and was simply a pleasure to meet and work with on this effort. For future electrical work, I'll be looking to hire ARP Electric once again."

"Saul and Juan arrived on time, determined where the fault lay, advised me on what I can do to save some labor costs by running wire myself. I have worked on some electrical equipment over the years so usually am familiar with what is needed or not needed. These guys didnâ  t try to sell me something I didnâ  t need. Very professional and I would recommend them to others. Thx. Brian Napa County"

"Work got done relatively quickly and Ofer was really responsive via text and phone call. There was a lot of back and forth to get the work quickly done with the city inspector. Beyond that, there are two very small issues that come to mind. 1. A plumbing permit got pulled when it wasn't required and now I have to chase the city for a refund. 2. The city inspector and electrician each had to come out a few different times after comments. Price was a bit higher than what I would have liked."

"

For this job, I would give Budget Electric a solid B+ overall.  Angie's List doesn't have this, so I had to go with a B.  I'll explain further below.

I purchased this package mostly for the ceiling fan installation, and that went great!  The room where I needed the ceiling fan installed was already pre-wired for it, but there was a large, difficult-to-move desk directly below the ceiling fan pre-wire, so the electrician had to work around that.  He finished in just about an hour, then proceeded to show me how to use all the controls and even recommended how to attach the remote's base to the wall to make it look like it was there originally.

If I was grading just on this, it would have been an A all around.  However, the problem was with the whole-house electrical inspection.

Through some miscommunication, the electrician who installed the ceiling fan did not know that the package I purchased included the inspection, so he did not have his tools for it.  I had to schedule the inspection separately, which meant another day I had to work from home.

The second electrician who did the inspection was great.  He explained everything he was doing, went over the areas of concern and possible upgrades (as well as why I may or may not want the upgrades), and told me that he was preparing a report with all the same information that I would have the following day, so I didn't need to write everything down.

The problem was getting the report.  I had to e-mail Budget Electric twice to follow up, and I eventually got it a week later.  If it weren't for this and having to work from home an extra day for the inspection, I would wholeheartedly recommend Budget Electric.  As it is, I would recommend them, but with caveats on responsiveness, punctuality, and professionalism.

FAQs for generator repair projects in Holy-city, CA

There is often some confusion about the type of work these professionals do. They only work on electrical systems such as outlets, lighting fixtures and electrical panels – they aren’t appliance repairmen.

There are three types of electricians: Master, Journeyman and Apprentice. Electrical licensing varies quite a bit by state. Some have licenses for apprentices and some do not. Some have a master’s rank while others stop at journeyman. Despite the differences, they all require a minimum amount of experience and usually classroom time.

  • Apprentice electricians aren’t usually licensed and spend 4 years learning the trade. Throughout that time, they work on a wide range of projects to learn to become a Journeyman. They’ll do basic work like installing fixtures and replacing outlets all the way to assisting in wiring a home. Regardless of the type of project, they must always be supervised by a Journeyman or Master electrician.

  • Journeymen work without supervision. In a few states, this is the highest level available and they can do all levels of work from wiring a new home to installing a light. In some states, they need a separate electrical contractor license to run a business. In places with a master’s level, a journeyman can do all work besides design new electrical systems.

  • Master electricians usually manage a shop, design new electrical systems in new construction and oversee both Journeyman and Apprentices. They typically bid new projects. Though they focus on larger projects, it’s not unheard of for a homeowner to request a Master Electrician for a house call. If you do, expect to spend up to 25% more for the visit.

Generally, you don’t tip electricians, but that’s not to say they don’t appreciate it if you do. You can offer them something to drink or eat, like coffee and donuts. Most will appreciate it if you do.

The education and certifications required to become an electrician vary by state, though they generally follow this list:

  1. Apprentice

    • Does not always require a license depending on the state.

    • Learns on the job under Journeyman and Master Electricians.

    • Usually needs 4 years on-the-job training before they can test for a Journeyman license. Many states also require a technical degree to advance.

    • Always require supervision.

  2. Journeyman

    • Needs between 8,000 to 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and usually 500 to 1,000 hours of classroom experience.

    • Can usually supervise apprentices.

    • They can diagnose and repair electrical problems.

  3. Master

    • Achieved after an additional two years (4,000 hours) working as a Journeyman and taking the Master Electrician Exam.

    • Besides diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, they also design them. In most places they run shops and inspect Journeyman and Apprentice work.

    • Not a recognized rank in all states.

  4. Electrical Contractor License is an optional license in some states for a Master Electrician to run a business. Some states have this instead of the Master license.

Electricians make an average of $26 per hour but it ranges with experience and licensing. An apprentice may make about half that while a Master Electrician may hit closer to $40 per hour. This figure represents how much they make; not how much they bill. Their salary is only one component of their costs. They must also figure in overhead, taxes, equipment, insurance and several other expenses.

Leave electrical work to the professionals. Electrical systems are complex and potentially hazardous when not handled and installed correctly. If it were easy, it wouldn’t take 4 years to become a journeyman or 6 years for a master’s license. If you are determined to forge ahead yourself, understand home electrical safety before beginning any project.Even for simple common electrical projects, a licensed pro is best. Not only is it safer, but contractors guarantee and insure their work. Hire a professional to keep your home’s electrical systems functioning properly and safely.
