"I'd used TruGreen in the past is why I chose them for my lawn care. I was originally set up on 4-6 week intervals to accomodate my financial needs. Everything was going as planned until I got a fertilization/weed control treatment & aeration in Sep within a week apart. I didn't realize what happened until I received the bill and contacted them to report a duplicated charge. I was told one of the charges included an aeration treatment and was a one time application indicated in the contract. This was not my understanding and must have been in very small print I could not read. When first asked about doing aeration, it was agreed to revisit in the fall. I was not asked, told or suggested this was being done so I got hit with that bill. Customer Service Rep was useless. Her resolution was to send someone out when I mentioned the service was incomplete since the gate was locked and the technician did not have access to my yard."

Garden State Tree and Landscaping Service has been in business for 11 years. What's special about our business is our main anchor in the knowledge, skills and ability of Matt Rusnock. Matt had previously owned Bakers Nursery in Monroe NJ. His business was a garden center and a landscape company. He started there when he was 17 years old, became a partner, then bought out the owner. After many years in the business the local competition forced this "mom and pop" business out of business. Myself, Art Kieffer and Matt have been friends for close to 40 years. At the time of the closing of his business we decided to join as partners.\n\nMatt has a wealth of knowledge in landscape design. The way I put it is: there isn't anything Matt can't do on the outside of someones house.

"The guys are great, they take their job very seriously, they go behind the sheds to get all the leaves and branches that have fallen from the trees, I have used the service for the last four years and found it to be great. If you call the office with questions, the cooperation is outstanding. I would recommend Intelliscape Landscaping and Lawn Care To anyone who needs lawn service."

"The workers showed up right at 7am and started end ripping the old roof off as they said they would but no one spoke English until the foreman showed up much later. The building materials that they had dropped off by a supply company ran over our lawn and crushed our sprinkler head as well as broke a bunch of large tree branches. The work itself appeared to be going fine so I went to work. When I showed up in the afternoon to check on the progress, I found that they shingled over a large hole in the roof where squirrels had chewed (which was the main reason for getting the work done) which they said any damaged sheets would be replaced. When I brought it to the tore and attention he said he would fix it. I came back to pay them when the job was completed but found that the foreman had not fixed the hole or put the proper drip edge in. Overall it makes me question what else was done improperly but I may never know since everything is covered up already. I would not hire this company again and would caution other people be gore they hire them."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Howell, NJ

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
