"Great. They started with a 6:00 am materials delivery. The work crew arrived at 8:00. By 2:00 they were done and cleaned up the debris. We have had plenty of rain to check for any leaks. None have been found. It looks great."

"Great! Very responsive service. Came over quickly for an initial quote, which involved flying a drone over all parts of the roof to make sure everything was inspected. What initially was supposed to be a leak fix to find the source and repair rotten sheathing transformed into a larger project, as Rich found and explained (with photos and in detail) how just about all aspects of our 14 year old roof had been installed incorrectly, and had probably been leaking from day 1 (too much spacing on shingles, shingles attached with staples instead of nails, no step flashing on dormers dormer/roof transition incorrect, one row of ice and water missing with bare sheathing exposed, etc.). Having been trained as an architect it was easy for me to see just how poorly a job had been done on the old roof. Fortunately we had the ability to expand the scope of the project to the entire roof and related elements, which was a good call, as the other parts of the roof were also leaking as well, and also improperly installed. That being said, the service we received was wonderful. Work proceeded in an orderly fashion, with daily cleanup and removel of waste materials at he end of the day, and more continuously as the project wrapped up. One day was rainy, and Rich made sure any unfinished areas were covered by both ice and water and a tarp. Highly recommend. Prior roofers we had contacted either didn’t respond or didn’t follow up when we tried to reconnect, but Arctic Roofing & Siding was quick and responsive throughout the project."

"Dean was very helpful in designing our bathroom and helping us find the subcontractors we needed to complete our project. Our master bathroom was almost gutted and rebuilt to have a beautifully tiled walk in, double head shower with glass doors. The original jet tub was replaced with a freestanding soaking tub. Remodels are hard but Dean and his team gave us our dream bathroom. We also worked with Dean to replace and extend our deck and add a patio. The backyard is now an oasis that we love and enjoy!"

"Excellent! I'd bought a beautiful slab French door last year from Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and painted it this past winter, but had difficulty finding someone to install it. After doing a lot of research, I found that installing a slab door requires a high degree of carpentry skill. <br /> I got David's name from my aunt - he has done some work for her. He came by on 08/13/15 with his assistant Seth to look at the job. The installation was complicated by the fact that the French door is a true exterior door - 1-3/4' thick, whereas the original back door  was 1-5/8" thick. After discussing two approaches to adjust for the great thickness, we went with my approach of trimming the door stop by 3/8" so that the door would sit completely within the frame. <br /> We arranged to do the work on 08/19/15. The work took a couple hours. He removed a lock remnant from the previous owners from the door frame. He did say candidly that he was not a finish carpenter, so I had to fill the spot where the lock remnant had been with wood putty, and also fill the area on the frame where the bolt lock had been on the original door, but I was fine with that. I do some DIY work, but I know my limitations - installing an exterior door is one of them. When they were done, David and Seth moved the original door to my cellar per my request - I may reuse it in the future.  <br /> David and Seth came back the next morning after I had chance to paint the raw wood that was revealed by the trimming. They quickly reinstalled the weather stripping, and we settled up. The $125 price was a bargain - the fellow I know at Home Depot's door desk once told me that $500-600 is a normal price for slab door installation. I've lived with door for a month now, and it still moves and locks easily. It is very nice having more sunshine in my kitchen. I'll appreciate it even more when winter arrives and the kitchen is both warm and sunny.    <br /> David and his assistant Seth were friendly and down to earth, and I felt very comfortable with them in my house, and that's important too.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Dave is extremely professional and explains everything he recommends doing then creates a detailed written proposal. <br /> Scheduling wasn't an issue with us since we gave Dave a window of and quot;before winterand quot; (7 months). He gave us an approximate service date of about 2-3 months from deposit date. But then he came out in less than one month. I have had contractors delay their start date before - but very very rarely has one been early like Dave. <br /> Dave takes a LOT of care with the environment around the work site. Each day that he worked, his friendly crew completely cleaned the site. At the end of the job (4 days) it was almost as if they'd never been here - except for our very nice new roof. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Isle-of-springs, ME

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
