"Was very disappointed in the large branch cuts they made. I learned from my father, years ago, that you undercut the branch to prevent the branch from stripping down bark as it falls when you cut. I have employed local, untrained, gardeners in the past to help me with my trees and unless I reminded them to do this undercut.... ended up with scars where the underlaying bark was stripped to the "white" wood underneath. I expected Davey to display more professional knowledge and did not expect to have so many points, at cuts, where the branch was broken off (and not trimmed down to a smooth cut) and/or where the cut branch did strip, peel off bark below the cut. An outcome that in most cases could have been avoided but I suspect that the crew was rushing and/or undertrained. They cleaned up well. As described above: stripped-down bark below many cuts and a few cut/broken off branches whose cut/breakage wasn't cleaned up. I should have just performed the trimming myself without all of their great tools to arrive at the same quality. Essentially, I paid Davey $520 to dispose of trimmings with their shredder, to end up with the same result that I could have done. My 80 year old wife wrote them a check for $520 to pay for the services; this was a requirement of the contract for services. I have since learned that the Crew hands the check off to the Arborist who bid on the job, and then he sends the checks off to the midwest headquarters. I received an Invoice for the work performed about 7 days after the date of service (and after we had already paid them!). This required that I follow up: 1) verifying that the check had been cashed (it had), and then having to call Davey to verify that they showed that my account balance was zero. In attempting to communicate with the office person, that we had paid them at date of service, the first words out of her mouth were how I could make a payment by phone, right then, using my credit card or my checking account number - which is not what I was calling her about, but she did not listen, her focus was upon my paying moneys to Davey. It took a few moments for her to listen before she understood that I was NOT HAPPY about being billed twice for work that we had already paid for and that I wanted the situation straightened out.... then, and only then, did she tell me we had a Zero balance. What??! My 80 year old wife paid them at time of service, a requirement of their contract, yet they automatically billed us in the mail a second time as though we had not paid them. I wonder how many customers of Davey end up double-paying their fee? How many senior citizens end up paying a double-fee because of their billing practices?"
