"Highly recommend Advanced Roofing Soilutions! I have a newer home that was built with several skylights and theyâ ve leaked since soon after installation, we had several repair attempts made by the installer and they could noit ever seem to get it fixed. "We are so pleased with the quality work and craftmanship provided by David. We have asked him back for 3 home projects all of which we have been more than satisfied with the outcome. He enlarged a small deck and transformed it into an amazing sun room that allows us 4 season use of the area, just outstanding. He never cuts corners and is professional down to the smallest details. David then came back to install gutter guards to our existing gutters and cleaning out the thoroughly clogged gutters. He then installed a large awning on our basement French doors, which involved some modifications in the existing lighting and waterproofing all around it. David is very skilled, communicates well, and goes beyond what is expected of him to provide quality materials at a more affordable cost to you if he is aware of a cost difference elsewhere. I love that he is a man of faith and lives his faith through his honesty and quality of his work. We truly recommend him highly and are certain you won’t be disappointed"

"Extra work was performed with extra expense & not discussed with me. We eventually settled but the roof leaked in 2 separate places. They said they would fix and it was "under warranty ". At least four requests were made to "fix it". They never showed up. I had to pay $2,600 to repair their insufficient workmanship. I would never allow anyone I know to use them."

"He is very multi-talented. He does decking, tile work and skylights. He has a lot of talent and skills. His name was Mr. Godfrey. I was absolutely pleased with his work and I plan to have him come back. He did a good job overall and he was neat and cleaned up. He did exactly what he said he would do. His price was quite reasonable."

"Michael (owner) is a great guy to work with and works hard to make sure that everything is done well and to the satisfaction of the customer.
The job was pretty simple but my experience with contractors hasn't been the best since I moved to TN.  This project started out well, I could tell right away that he was very respectful of my home and family.  When we were walking around the house, I let him know that my 1 year old was sleeping inside and he immediately made his guys be quiet.  The funny thing was when we were leaving (I knew that the baby was awake but he didn't) I was talking at a normal volume near where she was sleeping and he reminded me that the baby was sleeping.  I really appreciated that he cared enough to do that and showed great respect for my family.
On to the job.  His guys came by and did the drywall in a reasonable amount of time and did a good job.  They also helped move a rug and some furniture out of the way for my wife while I was gone so it wouldn't get dirty.  The fireplace was adjusted and lined up with the wall prior to putting up the drywall.  This part of the job went well.
The tile portion did not go so smoothly although I don't blame Michael for this at all.  The normal tile guy was really sick and he didn't want to make me wait too long so he brought in another guy that he had worked with in the past.  This guy had many years of experience installing tile but he must have been having a bad day when he came to my house.  As my wife put it, "it looks like a 3 yr old did this" and "this is a tile job not an abstract art project".  The joints didn't line up and were all different sizes, tiles were cut at different widths on the ends.  It was so bad that I considered redoing it myself and even though I only have 1 tile job under my belt, it was much better than this mess.
I called Michael who immediately asked me how much I liked the tile, he was quite surprised that my wife and I weren't happy.  I could tell that he expected to find some small detail to fix but he was very surprised when he saw the work.  I brought my wife down to talk about it and he said that no explanation was necessary, it was obvious to him that it was all wrong.  The result was a very strong talking to and firing of the tile guy.  Michael also told me that he doesn't pay for a job that he hires out until he personally inspects it.
Michael came out the next day and personally ripped out the bad tile and completed the job himself.  It turned out perfect, he showed me what a properly done tile job looks like.
Michael is now my go-to guy for home repairs (as soon as this rain lets up, he's going to repair a leaky window seal).  We are selling our house and I have no problem putting him on the list of recommended businesses for the next owner.  Individual workers come and go and you can't always depend on them all to do good work but if they work for Michael Thompson, everything will be right in the end even if he has to do it himself.

FAQs for existing skylight repair, replacements or sealing projects in Johnson City, TN

Yes, skylights can heat your house. Skylights pull in plenty of sunlight, and that solar gain raises indoor temperatures during bright hours. The extra warmth is great in winter, but can feel stuffy in summer. Keep the heat in check with shades, low-E coatings, or reflective films so you enjoy the light without driving up cooling bills.

A newly installed skylight lasts for eight to 15 years when built and maintained well. Regular cleaning, prompt repairs, and removing obstructions such as leaves and debris help keep the unit in optimal condition. Consistent maintenance prevents premature deterioration and keeps the skylight operating safely and efficiently over its lifespan.

Several issues trigger skylight leaks. The unit may not sit flush with the roof, letting water sneak in, or the flashing and weather-stripping could be breaking down. Sometimes it’s just interior condensation that drips when the AC runs hard against humid outdoor air. A quick inspection tells you which fix is needed.

Replacing a skylight takes between three and five hours under straightforward conditions, with professional crews ensuring safe installation. Larger units, custom shapes, very high ceilings, or hard-to-access areas add extra complexity, extending the work time accordingly. Careful planning and expert handling guarantee a secure replacement process even when complications are present.

It is not safe to attempt skylight repair or replacement on your own because the work involves dangerous roof access, handling fragile glass, and managing a heavy frame. Expert professionals provide the necessary skills and safety precautions, ensuring that installations or repairs are performed correctly while preventing injury and additional property damage.
