"Barnett responded promptly to repair my storm damaged roof. Patrick was very knowledgeable and made repairs in the rain. Very pleased with the response and the work. Plan on having additional work completed by Barnett to fix work performed by a different roofing company."

"When a tree fell on our house we were stressed. We had concerns about dealing with our insurance, how long the job would take, and making sure the repairs were done right. Mike at CPR was awesome. He replaced our roof, fixed or replaced the gutters, and helped us communicate with the insurance company and understand our bill. We got a great looking high quality roof, with great service, and he made the logistics of dealing with our insurance company super smooth. The work was done very quickly and everyone involved was polite and professional. I hope its at least a decade or two before we need any roof work again, but I know the first person I'll call if we find ourselves in a similar predicament again."

"Mr. King and his staff conducted this project with outstanding professionalism, courtesy, and attention to detail.  The day after our first contact, Mr. King was on the roof and provided a reasonable estimate, which turned out to be the final price.  There were no surprises and no add-ons to the cost.  Throughout the relatively short process, Mr. King's office staff, especially Donna,  kept us informed and assisted with color choice.  I would definitely recommend this roofing company. <br />"

"I already knew from Angie's List (with a cross-reference of google) that Litespeed does quality work.  Kirby Smith answered my message in less than an hour, and accommodated my schedule to find a time to see our problem the very next day. <br /> Even though I talked his ear off asking questions (I'm very ignorant of the world of roofing), he patiently gave me all sorts of information I needed to make the decisions, and did it all with a smile.  He clearly had the experience to help me see what all my options were, and accepted my choice without a hint of disappointment or pressure.  He gave us a verbal offer for the work we needed done, as well as some maintenance we didn't know we needed (the windows), and a special request I had (the flood lights). <br /> Mr. Smith and his companion were able to fit us in two days later! Even though the holidays are right around the corner, and winter is a tough time to fit roofing in (when it's not raining) and despite the fact that I overheard a conversation where he and his people were clearly busy from dawn to dusk for the next few days,  they were able to find time to fit us in before another rainstorm could make our situation worse. They worked extremely efficiently, and even with my interruptions, still worked into the night and got it done in just a few hours! <br /> Since the work was done today, obviously I have no idea how well the roof work is going to do its job, but it certainly looks good from the outside and the way they both worked, I have reason to believe it could hold up at least as long as the rest of the roof. <br /> When the weather warms up, I am looking forward to contacting Mr. Smith and Litespeed again to take care of our other house problems. <br />"

"One of our better experiences with any contractor.  After a strong rain we found water coming in the garage under a glass block window.  Upon pulling off some of the dryall we found the entire structure holding up the glass blocks was rotted out.  C&L responded quickly to my phone call, gave us a good estimate and performed the work very professionally.  Their two employees--Ryan and Jeremy--kept the work area cleaned up as they went along.  They found a way to repair the rotted-out area without having to take down the entire glass block window, saving us almost $1000.  The drywall replacement and "mudding" was as good as any I've seen done. <br />"

"Excellent quality of work on 2-day job. 2-man crew was courteous & efficient, clean-up was perfect. They didn’t want any $ up front or even upon completion, but sent an invoice a week or so later. Price was on the high side, but worth it for quality of work. Would hire again."

"This is the second job completed by CRS and installation from Dave & Scotty. The window and door measurements were spot on, and the installation went great. Dave & Scotty always do a great job, they work well together and they kept me entertained with their banter. They will not leave or call a job complete until the customer is happy/satisfied and they are satisfied everything is completed and working properly. Scotty even adjusted my front door so it hung in the frame correctly and opened and closed smoothly. Little things mean a lot to professional installers. Thanks for the hard work guys!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Knoxville, TN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
