"The owner of this company was wonderful to work with. He guided us in the right direction, he was always on time and hard workers. They removed an old stone wall, hauled it out and replaced it with a beautiful stone wall. They did such a great job we are having them replace a smaller wall to match the new one. If you want a good job done I highly recommend this company. I don't think you would be disappointed."

"We are 100% delighted with what we call our new "living area" and the work completed by Rotten Rock. Our initial inquiry in the dead of winter was replied to the same day and a site visit almost immediately. Henry from Rotten Rock listened to our ideas (a lot of the inspiration came from other work Rotten Rock highlighted on their Facebook page) and helped us see how a natural bluestone patio would fit into our rustic country setting. The quote arrived promptly and we contracted the work, which began in earnest in the Spring of 2015. The job lasted about 3 weeks and the team performing the work were prompt, courteous, hard working and always did what they could to clean up at the end of each day...we could see the progress because they did so. They took any suggestions we had along the way (which weren't many) and answered all our questions. They were accommodating of the other contractors - and even installed all the underground conduit for the electrician - and offered to help with the hot tub installation. The attention to detail of the stone work is impressive and we are pleased to know that unlike the ugly old deck that we never used, we'll have an area that will last a lifetime (we have already spent more time in our backyard in the past two months than we did the previous 5 years we owned the house!). We were away for part of the installation but was kept informed via email from the office, which again, was always responsive. We would highly recommend Rotten Rock for any hardscaping and/or tree work (they removed a few trees for us a few years ago too) and would use them again without hesitation.
"

"Ken and Marcie were wonderful to work with from the initial inquiry to setting the appointment to the services performed. Ken and his crew were prompt, efficient and courteous. They carefully removed the stains and etching on my marble floors as well as suggesting an enhancer on the travertine floor in my mud room that brought life back into the stone and brightened up the whole area. Ken was constantly checking on all the work to make sure that the crew was meeting his obviously high expectations. He taught me how to properly care for all the stone to keep it looking beautiful for many years. He even caulked an area that had been forgotten by my contractor that I never noticed. I would highly recommend Marble perfect to any one looking to care for their natural stone.
"

"They were pretty good. I thought that they were a little expensive. That was what they quoted me and I took quote. It took a longer than I thought. I understood that there was something going on with some of the people that were working for them. I had a lot of plans and the work was done in the fall. I called them two weeks ago for the spring cleanup. I never got a call back. I know that I dialed the right number because it was answered by the person who handles their stuff. But that doesn’t mean that I won't call them back. I was just surprised by that. They worked hard when they were here. They had some good suggestions and they followed my instructions. They did fine. I don’t have anything to compare their price to."

"
The project went well overall. When they tore up the old asphalt, we discovered that the gravel base was of better quality than we thought, so it could stay in place. They guys brought in more gravel to raise the bed back up to where it should have been. (The drive was about 30 years old and had sunk a couple of inches.)

They put a 2 inch layer of rough asphalt, then another inch of finish layer on top of the gravel base. They provided some instructions about not driving on it for a couple of days. We did some web research and got more detailed instructions for new asphalt - we want this to last another 30 years, so we're going to baby it for a while.

They were amenable to doing other little odd jobs for us, like using their Cat to take stones from an old wall to our backyard and to remove an old cement slab and rocks from where our front steps were. They were also happy to take topsoil removed from one edge of the drive to other places on our property to fill in holes.

I would have liked better communication around when they would come to do what. They had planned to just drop off equipment on a Wed evening then do the job on Thurs/Fri. Instead, they came on Wed afternoon ready to remove the old drive. It's a good thing we were home and were able to change our plans for that afternoon.

I don't want to ding them too much for communication, because I understand that outdoor work like this depends on the weather. So, maybe these sorts of surprises are just normal.

The guys were pleasant and professional. A couple of them smoked while working, but they get points for not leaving butts in the yard.

UPDATE: First rain storm, and we have some puddling at the end of the driveway. Nowhere as bad as with the old driveway, but one of the main goals in replacing the pavement was to eliminate all puddles at the end. So, a little disappointing.

UPDATE 2: First snow storm, and this driveway is way easier to clear than the old one. No frozen lake at the end. I'm sure we'll have puddles on either side of the end still.

UPDATE 3: Spring 2015. The driveway is still quite soft, and parking in the driveway during the day creates car "footprints" in the tar. It's not even that hot yet. We're continuing to baby it, and move the cars off the driveway during the day. It's still a little ridiculous that it's so sensitive.
"

"Great job done. The reason for the low mark is this: the walkway would run parallel to our driveway which is asphalt. My husband spoke with Bernard and specifically requested that they use a concrete saw to cut the edge of the asphalt which was about 5 feet long, so it would look neat up against the new concrete. Bernard was not on site the day this was done, and one of his helpers dug it out with a shovel. It looked awful. Bernard responded right away and the asphalt was cut with a special saw, but the edge of the asphalt was now farther over than we wanted it. | We did check 3 references that were very happy with Bernard's work. The patio and walkway look very nice, but that issue with the way the asphalt was cut really turned us off. I would recommend that you hire him only if he is on-site only for the whole job. | |"
