"Fantastic! Dave and his crew are professional, courteous, efficient, abd do great work. I called Dave for a quote because a roof vent was blown off in a wind storm, and I knew we were due for a new roof. He reinstalled the vent for free, gave me a quote on the spot, and then followed up with great work. We could not be happier with the entire experience."

"Gunner Roofing has an excellent team that completed my house siding project. As certified installers of James Hardie, they were professional from start to finish! Andrew was extremely knowledgeable of the product and created a spectacular design and assisted w/ the financing of my project. He was always available to answer all questions. The Project Manager Anthony communicated daily with project updates and was extremely responsive to questions and addressed all concerns in a timely manner. The workers were exceptional as they always arrived early and worked late to ensure completion of the work. Really appreciated their attention to detail! I highly recommend this company!"

"The Lamey’s are wonderful contractors! They went above and beyond in our fixer upper. Everything basically needed done in my house. From the roof to the siding. We had termite damage, which was fixed, and trees were taken down. Beautiful windows were installed and new doors. Great care was given. Do I want them to come back and do many more projects? Yes! Yes!"

"My home has a 100+ year old slate roof in disrepair and several generations of cheap fixes. I contacted Leeland's for an opinion on repairs. The inspector was extremely thorough, provided pictures, and gave me his candid opinion on the remaining life of my roof based on the condition of my slates and flashings. He ultimately wrote up an estimate to paint the rusted metal valleys, replace several dozen broken slates, repair rotted wood, and install new copper chimney flashing and a cricket. It was a difficult decision to repair vs replace the roof, but I never felt any pressure from them one way or another. I agreed to the repairs originally, but ultimately changed my mind and just decided to replace the roof. I'm sure this was a hassle to go back and forth with me, but they were very patient, and ultimately returned my deposit. I really appreciate their honesty and customer service, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for maintenance on their slate roof. <br />"

"Outstanding... they did the job ( a 9,000 sq. ft. roof) for half the price of any other quotes I received and did it quickly and with flawless skill.... I recommend them as highly as possible... you won't be disappointed.  PS- they were also wonderful people to have around the house, especially considering the length of time that was necessary. <br />"

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"We needed a new roof . We interviewed 3 roofing companies and got quotes from each. After the interviews and reviewing the quotes we decided we were most comfortable with Jesse. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. The job was finished in 2 days and was done exactly as promised. We have experienced 2 downpours since the job was finished and no leaks. We are very comfortable in giving a positive recommendation and a 5 star rating."

"Dave was responsive from the start. He promptly responded to my calls and answered my questions. Provided great advice regarding shingle selection. <br /> Typically Dave performs the work alongside his team but an injury prevented him from going on the roof. Fortunately he has a strong, knowledgable team. The men arrived on time, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. They worked hard and we are 100% pleased with the end result. <br /> I highly recommend Sand D. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Lewistown, PA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
