"Very impressed with responsiveness, professionalism, technology, and value provided by Gunner Roofing. The copper flashing was pulling away from around my chimney and looked like it was in need of repair or replacement. I had previously worked with another well reviewed roofing company on Angie's List that missed my scheduled appointment to examine my chimney flashing. So I was very pleased when Andrew from Gunner showed up exactly when promised, and I was quite fascinated with his use of a drone to take precise aerial photographs of the work to be performed from all angles - a rather tech savvy approach. Gunner provided a detailed estimate within hours, that was only 1/3 the cost of the estimate I ultimately received from that other roofer. Gunner Roofing completed the work on time, and did a very satisfactory job. This was a relatively modest project, but based on my experience, I hope to use Gunner Roofing when it comes time to redo my entire roof."

"This is a great company in business for over 40 years. Although it called Ken Tibbles, its now run by his son and they seem to be carrying on the tradition of good quality workmanship and professionalism. I paid a bit more than some of the other quotes I got, but I am confident this company will be around for years to come and will make good on guarantees. One thing to be wary of in a roofing company is there are many fly-by-nights that don't last the length of the materials warrantee. A 30-year shingle has little warrantee if the installer is out of business after 5 years. Ken Tibbles roofing has four decades of track record and I would recommend them."

"<p>PLEASE READ! Mr. Long has restored our faith in contractors! We live in Charleston, SC. This area was hit by hurricane Hugo almost 25 years ago. Now many of the roofs that were put on are failing and the roofing companies are very busy. Our roof is only eight years old and we had three leaks. I had a difficult time finding someone for the repairs. They would either be extremely high with their quote, never send me a quote, or did not show up at all. I even called roofing companies that had on their voice mail they would not be doing repairs because they were too busy with full roofs.</p> <p>When I called Mr. Long he told me there were four people in front of me. I followed up with him about a week later and he came out within two days for the quote. He was very honest with us and gave us a fair price. If he takes a couple of days to get to you it is only because he has other jobs because he does good quality work. If you call someone to come and fix your house and they can be there in five minutes and start that day during this busy of a time for roofs, then what is the reason they are not busy? My point is the quality of work was worth waiting for. </p> <p>He came and worked on our home for three days. He did a really good job, it rained yesterday and so far no leaks! Also I would like to mention that the last day he was here I left to run an errand and I was in a very bad car accident six months pregnant. I received a message on my phone from him when he was finished that night, he was sincerely worried about me and the baby and just wanted to know if we were ok. He did not even care about payment since it was his last day, he was only worried about our welfare. He is a truly nice and caring person and he will be working on our home from now on. He will also be the person I recommend to everyone. My husband and I are very grateful for such a great contractor. Thank you for reading I hope this helps you when choosing a contractor!</p> <br />"

"My home has a 100+ year old slate roof in disrepair and several generations of cheap fixes. I contacted Leeland's for an opinion on repairs. The inspector was extremely thorough, provided pictures, and gave me his candid opinion on the remaining life of my roof based on the condition of my slates and flashings. He ultimately wrote up an estimate to paint the rusted metal valleys, replace several dozen broken slates, repair rotted wood, and install new copper chimney flashing and a cricket. It was a difficult decision to repair vs replace the roof, but I never felt any pressure from them one way or another. I agreed to the repairs originally, but ultimately changed my mind and just decided to replace the roof. I'm sure this was a hassle to go back and forth with me, but they were very patient, and ultimately returned my deposit. I really appreciate their honesty and customer service, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for maintenance on their slate roof. <br />"

"Brian arrived promptly as scheduled and asked to see areas of concern visible in the house. After checking out water damage visible inside, he headed out to the roof where he fixed and caulked popped nails and open spots on chimney flashing and ridge vents. He returned with photos of problem areas on his tablet, and used those to explain trouble spots. He then was able to go through an itemized proposal that gave me reasonable options. Consequently, we agreed that we would contract to replace a missing chimney hat ($620 estimate) but hold off on replacing chimney flashing or ridge vents as current problems could've been due to an unusually tough winter and may have been resolved by the caulking. <br /> I was very impressed that Brian went above and beyond to clean out our gutters. I didn't request or expect this, and was very grateful as the gutters are extremely difficult to reach on our high, steep roof. <br /> Overall, I have great respect for CMV Contracting and will definitely call on them for all future roofing needs. <br />"

"Ernie Haas provided a very thorough examination of our roof which enabled us (after much back and forth with our roofer (DCF Contracting)) to ensure that all necessary and required repairs were made to our roof. Mr. Haas stayed in contact with us for more than a month to ensure that any questions or issues we had were addressed."

"Once they got started it was all hands on deck! There were at least three carpenters on site for over three weeks including Saturdays. I I had purchased a cottage next to mine and I wanted to connect the two. Kyle Felder surveyed the situation and came up with a creative way to connect the cottages. It was a tricky proposition. But, it came out superbly. Next, they gutted the cottage to the studs and completely rebuilt it. Mr. Felder gathered the key professionals together and we came up with a plan to reconfigure the previous layout. By gathering the plumber, electrician and carpenters at one meeting, mistakes were avoided. The carpenters did excellent work. This building is close to 70 yrs. old so nothing was true. They were able to work around difficult angles and make it look beautiful. I’m a woman who asks lots of questions. Everyone was patient with me and answered all my questions. No upfront money was asked for. I paid 20% about two weeks into it. The final payment was made after all work was completed!"

"In March of 2015 R A Haitz tore out a chimney for us and installed soffit vents.  We used them again because of the great work they did previously for us when they replaced windows and our roof. They were the best price and did a great job!  On the roofing job, they actually stayed late the day they started just so they could complete it in a single day.  I was beyond happy."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Massena, NY

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
