"Holsbeke Construction (Mt. Clemens, MI) installed a decorative stamped concrete patio and walkway at our home in the Spring of 2014 as well as replacing cracked concrete slabs from our driveway and sidewalk. They had generally good reviews for ordinary concrete work so we decided to use them for decorative concrete. The surface was a block pattern in a brown/walnut color. The concrete looked beautiful after it was installed, however, an employee of the company had warned us about potential problems with their decorative surfaces. After the first winter we were very surprised to see that the patio showed severe surface damage with 1/16” to 1/4” thick pieces of concrete spalled off the surface in various areas. See photo included. Holsbeke repaired the damage from the first year and said that they would monitor further damage. Each subsequent season the damage became worse and each time they were contacted they refused to return our calls. While they may be acceptable for ordinary driveways and sidewalks, we would not recommend them for any sort of decorative concrete work. The snow recently melted off of the patio and we’ve seen several dozen more spots of spalled concrete over nearly the entire patio surface. These spots are the size of nickels or quarters."
