"Excellent work at a fair price. Punctual and professional. Respectful of property and requests. Most people will stop reading at this point, but I suggest you continue for a brief example of how qenuine Ryan is. While he was here doing the job, I was helping an elderly neighbor remove a fallen tree from their yard when the tire on my pull behind lawn cart blew. Not only did Ryan offer to help me fix the cart but he helped me unload and stack the wood free of charge and still finished the job on schedule. A true stand up young man."

"They did an amazing job transforming my landscaping. They removed all the old mulch and weeds, cleaned everything up thoroughly, and replaced it with beautiful river rock. The attention to detail really showed, and the finished result looks clean, professional, and low maintenance. They worked hard, were dependable, and left the area spotless when finished. I’m very happy with the work and would definitely recommend them to anyone needing landscaping services."

"I've used Penn Hills Rentals for the past three years having rented a variety of lawn equipment. I have no complaints for the previous two years. In those years my interaction has always been with the short, dark hair bespectacled roly man whose name escapes me. He has always been very helpful and nice.

 - - This year I've had a series of problems which led me to write a review.  This is the first year I encountered Jeff.  In May, he tried to overcharge me for mower rental. Rental price is based on 4 hours or a full day. Policy is that if the store closes prior to the 4 hours rental time, as long as the mower is returned before 9am the next day - the charge is still for 4 hours. I rented a mower a couple of hours before closing. When I returned it the next day before 9am, Jeff tried to charge me for a full day. When I objected, he said "it doesn't take 2 hours to mow a lawn". Upon further objection, he charged me for 4 hours. The next time I rented a mower, I asked the really nice guy, if the rental policy had changed. He said no.

 - - In June, I had a mower that worked fine except the motor shook really bad and I was afraid it would fly off.  So I took the mower to Penn Hills Rental and was told it would be 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I inquired on the repair status and Jeff said it would be another week. A couple of hours later, I got a call that the mower was ready. I was told it just needed tightening and charged $39.99. When I got home and tried it out, the cord wouldn?t pull so I took it back. A couple of days later, I was told it was fixed at no additional charge ? the cord had simply gotten stuck when they tighten the motor. Upon first starting the mower it worked fine, until I turned it off to empty the bag. When I tried to restart it, the cord again only pulled halfway. I took it back and was told on the spot, that it needed a new carburetor that would cost a lot of money. I said no thanks, took my mower, and left.

- - While my mower was being repaired, I had a couple of issues with the rentals and Jeff. There is a young kid whom usually gives out the rentals and didn't have problems with rentals when he's there. On a couple of occasions, he wasn't there. Once I rented a mower that stalled, took it back and the next one stalled as well. I ended up not mowing the lawn. The next time I rented and he wasn't there was on July 26 and the last time I rented. I asked for a heavy duty mower. Jeff was nearby and saw the mower I was renting. That mower was horrible. The blades were dull because the cut was jagged and large clumps of cut grass were left on the lawn even though I was using a bag. I didn?t feel like taking it back for a better mower and finished the lawn. When I returned the mower. Jeff was again there to handle my payment. As he was swiping my card, he asked how was the mower. I said okay (I wasn't in the mood to complain). Jeff responded with a smirk,  ?doesn't it bag really good?.

I don't intend on going back for anything. For the previous years, I gave them an "A". This year is an "F" which is why I gave an overall "C". "

FAQs for lawn care maintenance and mowing projects in Mcdonald, PA

Hiring a professional saves you time and can actually save you money in the long run. Without regular care, your lawn might develop problems like thatch buildup, diseases, or pests, which can be expensive to fix. A pro keeps your lawn healthy, so you can enjoy it without the hassle.

Mowing your lawn yourself is generally cheaper than paying someone to do it. While a lawn mower can cost between $80 and $2,500 depending on the type, professional mowing services charge between $30 and $80 per visit. Investing in your own mower means that over time, you can save money by handling the mowing yourself, especially if you maintain your lawn regularly.

While the wording may vary from company to company, lawn maintenance typically includes all the services that keep your current healthy lawn looking sharp. Think mowing, watering, weeding, and a spring or fall cleanup.

Lawn care digs a bit deeper. These packages may include services that elevate your lawn's health or address an issue throughout the year. Fertilization, pest and weed control, and dethatching all fall into this category.

There is no set-in-stone schedule for mowing your lawn, as each grass variety grows at a different rate depending on the season. Once you determine the type of grass in your lawn and its ideal height, aim to remove no more than the top third of the blade at a time to retain its healthy structure.

In the high growing season, this will likely break down to about once a week, which is why lawn care specialists often offer weekly plans.

Don’t mow your grass if it hasn’t grown more than one-third of its height since you last cut it. For example, if you want grass no more than 2 inches, don’t mow it until it’s 3 inches. Don’t cut your grass when wet, as it clumps together and places more stress on your mower’s blades and makes it harder for the sun to reach the turf. This can lead to mold or disease. Conversely, don’t mow when it’s too dry. But, if you do, be sure to raise your mower’s deck height by about half an inch to encourage slower growth.

Yes, landscaping can significantly add value to your home. High-quality landscape design offers a return on investment of 20% to 30%. A well-maintained lawn and attractive outdoor spaces enhance your property's curb appeal and market value, making it more appealing to potential buyers when you decide to sell.
