"Brian worked with us for about 12 months on scheduling the project as we had significant exterior repairs to porches and trim due to winter damage. He assisted us on paint selection (many different shades) and ultimately we choose a slighly darker shade than was currently on the home. Brian's attention to detail was evident on the finished product. The pallette of Grey is crisp against the bright white trim, and the moldings and bead board ceilings of the porches appear to jump out in detail. Brian was willing to work around repair projects and move on to other areas of the home, while repairs to trim occurred. Some sections of the home were beyond the reach of ladders and Brian rented a Boom Lift to assist with these higher areas. The work took 3-4 weeks, which was a bit longer than some of the quotes we received from larger companies; however, Brian's attention to detail and willingness to work with us on our schedule were welcomed. We would reccomend him to anyone looking for a good value, and great attention to detail. <br />"

"Three years ago, we had a company called Cowette Construction (West Bath, ME) replace our roof and install ridge vents on four sections of the roof. Just this summer (2008) when removing a ceiling in the attic, we discovered that when Cowette Construction installed the ridge vents, they did not cut the small slots in the ridge of the roof that allow the hot air to exit through the ridge vents. This meant that the ridge vents were totally useless. When I tried to contact Ryan Cowette of Cowette Construction his cell phone number was no longer in service and apparently Mr. Cowette had declared bankruptcy and gone out of business. Mr. Alphonse Keenan had been a manager for Cowette Construction at the time of the roofing job. When I called the old office number for Cowette Construction, it answered as Keenan Construction. After talking with Mr. Keenan, he explained that he had started a new company called Keenan Construction without Ryan Cowette. Mr. Keenan explained that Cowette Construction had left a number of former customers with problems in the work that Cowette had done. Mr. Keenan said that even though he was not legally responsible for the work done by Cowette Construction, he was doing his best to fix what outstanding problems there were as a gesture of goodwill for the new company he had started. Mr. Keenan agreed that if I paid for the materials ($200) he would do the labor for free. This past week he came and removed the old ridge vent, cut the required slots, and put in a new ridge vent. The quality of his work was excellent. I was very impressed with Mr. Keenan's professionalism and willingness to correct a problem that was not technically his responsibility. I will definitely call him for future work."

"It went great. If he said he would be there at 8 AM he would be there at 7:55. He has a great attitude and personality and while my wife and I enjoyed talking to him, he didn't stand around and chit chat.He worked straight thru, not stopping for breaks or to play on the phone like so many contractors and workers do these days. His price was honest and fair and worth every penny. I recommended him to many people."

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Milbridge, ME

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
