"Pat replaced our deck, replaced the balusters for the stairs going to our basement, and did some drywall repairs for us. Pat and Mike are professionals in the best sense of the term. From start to finish the work was excellent and well priced. Definitely a five star company and our go to guys in the future."

"He charged me $250 for less than an hours work and did not replace any of the damaged wood. Just used a bunch of screws and a couple of stabilizers. Also he only took cash for payment."

"David with Supreme Builders was a great contractor to work with repairing my deck. He was extremely professional and polite. He was extremely knowledgeable with all of the new codes required to fix the deck which were not followed by the original contractor who built the house. He was so easy to work with and had a great work ethic that you don't see very often anymore. He was also very patient and knowledgeable with working with HOAs. I would 100% recommend David with Supreme Builders. Maureen Preston"

"Frank responded quickly to our request for assistance in repairing the window sill in our bedroom which had water damage from an incorrectly installed window. He was able to come to the house and take a look at the situation the next day and provided a quote the following day which we accepted. The pricing was reasonable. We agreed on a date for the work. Frank was running late but he kept us apprised of his arrival time via text. They finished the job the same day and the work was excellent. The new window sill looks great and we would definitely hire his company again in the future."

"Service was excellent. The price was more than fair and work was completed the same day. Repaired fence and assembled patio furniture. Returning to set up garage shelving. Referred him to my neighbor to refinish her patio. Very satisfied."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Monument, CO

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
