"Long time from discovering roof damage due to hail to having the roof replaced, but SJR was there for the entire process working with my insurance provider and keeping me updated. Once the approval came in and the weather permitted, the roof was replaced (had the gutters done also) very professionally and very quickly! The job was completed as advertised and as expected. The follow-up inspection was completed in the same professional manner and any concerns/questions I had were addressed and/or answered. Thank you SJR to giving me the piece of mind by having a roof that will last longer than I expect to be around!"

"FIVE STARS FROM BEGINNING TO END!! I needed to have the shingles replaced on the rear portion of my roof. I scheduled 5 different roofers to come out to give me estimates. Jason was not only almost $2,000 cheaper than the others, he also pointed out some things that needed immediate attention on the front portion of my roof that nobody else had mentioned. He contacted me the week before letting me know that we were still on for the originally scheduled date and what to expect as it got closer. On the day of the install, Jason remained onsite while his large crew completed the job. When all was done I had a BEAUTIFUL new roof and my property was spotless!! You would have never believed that they were ever here!! I HIGHLY recommend Evans Quality Roofing and when it comes time to replace the front portion of my roof, I only need to make one call! Thank you Jason for a wonderful experience!!"

"Great experience with Ed and his crews. I chose them after getting five other estimates - four of them for pretty much identical materials. The job consisted of a full removal down to sheathing, replacing some sheeting, and building up the new asphalt shingle roof, including removing an attic fan and installing ridge vents. The house is a split level with a back porch and carport, so there are three separate roof sections. Getting the estimate took longer than other companies. They only did them on Saturdays. Their lead roofer works on installations Mon-Fri, and the weather pushed it another weekend. Overall it was worth the wait because Ed and two crews came out and had the entire roof completed from start to finish in six hours. Communication with Ed via email was easy and responsive. We've been living with the new roof for four months without issues. I have only found one roofing nail in the yard, too, so they did a great job on cleanup—no reservations in recommending this company."

"Overall, Style Roofing, Inc. greatly exceeded our expectations! Nick Perkins (sales consultant and co-owner) was terrific to work with; customer service oriented, no high-pressure sales tactics, knowledgeable, and extremely responsive in assisting us with the learning process and roofing product we ultimately chose – CertainTeed Landmark Pro Architectural shingles. As such, Nick was invaluable in explaining the insurance claim / adjustor process and as our technical advocate, ensured he accompanied the adjustor during the inspection of our wind/hail damaged roof; this aspect was vital to the overall success of the project. Furthermore, Nick was never late for an appointment and responded to all of our emails or phone calls the same day; very impressive. When it came to price, Nick presented us with a brochure and an estimate for differing Composition and Architectural shingles and accessories (i.e., new gutters and downspouts, fascia rake wrap / trim replacement, etc.). The estimate came in at, or below three other estimates we obtained. Nick’s straight-forward honest persona, combined with a fair price and the fact that Style Roofing Inc. has been in business for over 25-years in Northern Virginia and received a preponderance of Outstanding (A+++) ratings from Angie’s List was more than enough for us to decide to contract them for the job. Anyways, at the end of the day, price was not our number one consideration, correct installation was. Style scheduled the work for a temperate, rain-free day during the calendar time-frame we had requested. The crew (6-8 individuals) arrived at 0630 hours and began their prep; the foreman, Javier, back-briefed us on the scope of work to ensue and politely answered any questions we had. The crew worked in unison and precision in removing our existing roof and installing the underlayment (done by mid-day); Javier was continually supervising and spot-checking their workmanship. During the lunch hour Nick showed up to see how things were going; as homeowners it was great to see a contractor that actually places such a high value on managerial oversight and quality control; our response to Nick – things are going magnificently! During the afternoon the crew installed the shingles, ridge vent, etc. It really was a thing of beauty to see the transformation of our roof. Javier and crew cleaned up as they worked and upon completion they all went into clean-up mode for a good hour. For a roof that required over 30 squares of shingles, we did not find one nail on the grass, sidewalk, or driveway. Javier and I did a final walk-around visual (roof looked outstanding) and verified all debris was recovered. Overall, the roofing crew and foreman were extremely proficient, professional, and respectful of our home. Over the next two days Style’s sub-contractors installed new gutters (with guards), downspouts, and rake wrap / fascia trim. Since completion it has rained very hard several times and we have yet to notice any issues whatsoever. Upon payment Nick presented us with an invoice receipt and a completion certificate for our insurance company. Nick reiterated Style Roofing’s 10-year warranty on Workmanship and directed us also to CertainTeed’s website for product registration; Landmark Pro architectural shingles have a limited Lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. In closing, as a retired military officer / couple, my wife and I can honestly say without any reservation that if your home requires roof replacement you’ll be extremely happy you chose Style Roofing!"

"A&M Roofing were great. Dave was diligent and patient in his approach to getting our roof and Portico replaced. He responded to multiple callbacks (representation with insurance company, initiated by me) and after about 3 months of waiting, was able to get the roof work done in a couple of weeks. For the portico, the only surprise was that once work began, i was told that railings need to be removed for them to do the work. That was additional cost that i had not anticipated (had to get a handyman to do it) Overall, i would recommend them to anyone getting any roofing related work. Thanks to them again."

"I contacted Roof Solutions after we discovered a water coming through an upstairs light fixture. Eric came out and discovered a missing slate and unsealed nail hole along the roof ridge. Rather than just replace the slate and reseal the ridge, Eric proposed a cap along the entire ridge to prevent future occurrence. The finished product is attractive and blends well with the roof."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Mount Vernon, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
