"Elite Roofing was very prompt, polite and honest from beginning to end, including the first phone call to solicit a quote. They came out within a day or two and measured my roof. Elite was very accommodating as I went back and forth to their office several times to pick up roofing samples. They even provided me some addresses where samples I was interested in had been installed so I could see what it looked like on a rooftop rather than just a sample board. Tear down was a one day affair with a very professional crew. The old shingles were removed and they installed the sheeting and underlayment on day one. No joking around or wasting of time. At the end of each day, they completely cleaned up and used a big magnet to get any nails and blew off the sawdust and chaff. Nice! Installation happened on the next day with the same professionalism. At the end of each day, a company rep came by the job to inspect the work that had been done by the crew. The thing that really impressed me was that the job was scheduled to begin on a Monday. When that Monday arrived, it was overcast with a slight chance of rain. Tim texted me and delayed the job until the next day when all threat of precipitation had passed. Not sure if every company would have done this."

"Custom Exterior used to do double pain windows in 2003 and now they do stucco as well. The sales pitch was well done. They were to repair dry root on a corner of the house then stucco the front of the house and the wall of a balcony. Their estimates got strange as I asked what if they would only do the balcony or what if they only did the front of the the house.  It seemed they always needed to have a 3 person crew visit three times that made the estimates high. A big red flag went up when then wanted half of the price upfront before they started. We canceled the contact at that time. We decided not to do stucco at all after this experience. <br />"

"We successfully used EnergySage to get broad range of quotes for our solar install completed May 2021 in Moraga CA. I had shortlisted Solar Optima and American Array Solar as they both had teams that were local and did not use contractors. One of the key reasons I selected American Array is I consistently spoke with the same person from the first quote until the signing of the contract. Julene was incredibly prompt on every question I asked and never pushy. I docusigned on April 7th and paid the final invoice May 14. Post signing there was continuous communication on the process, design and submitting the permits. I read reviews on many companies with a lot of drama which I am sure in cases was warranted. Our install with American Array was zero drama and it was incredibly easy. The install took a day, and the installers were all great, down to earth people and happy to talk me through how the technology worked. They were very organized and set up tables with all their supplies as a production line and that gave me even more confidence, they know their craft. They did not leave any trace they were here other than the panels on the roof. It’s a big decision and if you are like me and have read the horror stories you worry. I would recommend American Array to my closest friends. Good luck with your search."

"<p>Pros:</p> <ol> <li> This company cares about customers, that was obvious from the start of the bidding to completion of construction. </li> <li>Because I had a friend who had significant leaking after solar installation by another company, I hired a roofing contractor to inspect the roof mid-installation (after the brackets, but before the panels).  The roofer said YES did a quality job, everything was done "right".  The Oakland building inspector said the same thing.  And, my house stayed dry throughout the heavy storms in early March.</li> <li>Pleasant and professional installers, lead by Fabio. (sp?)  He was very patient with me as I asked questions and requested modification to the subpanel conduit.</li> <li>Competitive pricing:  I got prices from five contractors, but I wanted LG panels and YES was one of only two contractors who had extensive experience with LG. One other contractor would install LGs, but had little experience, two other contractors only installed other panels.  YES's cash price was the best of overall.  I worked first with Skip Woodward and finished with Dan Sisca in defining and pricing my requirements; both gentlemen were easy to work with and wanted to please.</li> </ol> <p>   Minor Cons which don't lower score (there are no major cons): </p> <ol> <li>Online contract-signing process was pretty slow.  The original contract was, as one might expect, rather one-sided in favor of contractor.  Dan worked with me to make changes and has told me that is under review for their newer contracts.</li> <li>NEM application took business 4 days to submit rather than the promised “within 2 business days of your solar installation passing final inspection by the Building Department” and seemed to happen only after my prodding on day 3. On the positive note, PG&E turned on Net Metering within 4 days of the application, rather than the expected 10-15 days.  So, no harm, no foul. </li> <li>While I appreciated having a chance to review the location of the panels and I had them moved for access reasons, I wish I had a chance to see the schematic of where the conduit would go as I’d have made a modification that would have made the roof easier to walk.  And similarly with the new subpanel, the electrical contractor asked me where the outside box would go and  Favio asked where the inside box should go, but the inside conduit ended up not as "neat" as I would have liked.  </li> </ol> <p> Overall, this contractor really cared about customer service and worked to make everything right. My solar system is working perfectly going into it's third month now. I am a very meticulous client, and I would definitely hire them again.</p>"

"We had a roof leak on the weekend. We called McGuire Roofing on Monday and someone was out to give us an estimate that afternoon. The crew removed the old roofing material on one day and started the new roofing material the very next day and within three days, we had a new roof. The crew was very professional and the company was very easy to work with. We had also gotten a couple of recommendations for this roofing company from friend. Our friends sure were right and now we are ready to recommend McGuire Roofing to everyone we talk to. <br />"

"We called initially for a leak that we had over our garage. They sent out some guys within two hours, and they fixed the problem. The estimator included the cost of that repair in a later bid for the shake work. The other bids we received only wanted to put on asphalt and no one else mentioned the new state codes that were required for energy efficiency. So we also had insulation done which really has helped keep our house warm. We were happy with the crews and they cleaned up the work around the home really well. I really recommend them and have been happy with the results."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Mountain-house, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
