"I had a bad problem with water runoff and erosion due to the slope of the yard. This creating a bigger issue as it had washed away a lot of the dirt in and around my privacy fence making it loose and unstable. Ortiz Landscape did an owtstanding job with following up with calls. Mr. Ortiz himself was very helpful and had great information for me when he came out to the house to look at the job. He and the company did exactly what we discussed doing by putting in a couple of "catch bassings" and piping and rocks around the fence with concrete to help direct the water to the catch basing. He even came out again to check everything to make sure all was done correctly and to our satisfaction."

My name is Dusty Shook, I am the owner of ShookScapes LLC. Yes the name is new, but the business is not. I have been in the industry now for 20 plus years under the names Shook Lawn Maintenance and PamScapes LLC. Those 2 companies were ran and owned by my mom, Pam Shook. She is now after 30 plus years in the industry retiring and I am taking over and look forward to serving each and everyone in the north Georgia area under the new name ShookScapes. \nMy companies primary focus is “making your dream yard your reality.” The pictures I’m attaching below are just little snippets of my customers vision and my reality of making it happen. If you have been thinking and dreaming of a front yard or back yard oasis message me, email me or call. I will set up a time to meet up with you to create your very own dream yard!

"My neighbor needed his retaining wall replaced. I wanted to add on to his to go part way across my back yard. David suggested he go all the way across my back yard and move the retaining wall out about 6 feet from my level ground and remove some trees. These are the hardest working men I have ever seen. They worked from 7:15 am to 6 pm with 30 minutes for lunch. They were prompt, courteous, friendly. The run off between the houses was eroding my lot so they build a small dam across the area between the houses, put in a box with grate and an 8" pipe to run the water under the retaining wall and out toward a stream at the back of the property. They tied the existing buried pipes draining gutters into that 8" pipe They dug holes for new plants, scattered seed below the wall, and sodded the entire back yard and some of the front. I was very pleased and would use them again and highly recommend them."

"I can't accurately rate the company's work.  I've heard from neighbors that they do beautiful work.  I wish I didn't absolutely have to give an overall rating, as I don't feel I can adequately do so. Owner came out for an estimate. We conveyed the scope of multiple projects that we'd like to complete over time - in essence build a relationship with a landscaping company. For whatever reasons, we apparently weren't a "good fit" for this company.  I was interested in purchasing the landscape design, but communication just kind of ceased. Being that we had plans to repair a driveway, correct erosion/drainage, build a deck, install new sod, and add a shade garden, I don't think meeting the minimum amount would have been an issue.  At the end of the day, as a consumer, I don't want to beg to pay someone. <br />"

"Christian, the owner, listened to us and his follow through was superb. He is a visionary….sometimes we were not able to describe but he knew what and how to design. We plan to use Advanced Scapes again until we run out of outdoor projects!!"

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Nelson, GA

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
