"After our experience with this business,it's impossible to believe that so many positive reviews are authentic.HOUZZ & other reviews weighed heavily in considering this company. The over-riding reason was the earnestness MattCowen presented at the BPT Home Show as well as being an “Engineer” (he is NOT)& later,at our home, abt his quality of work & assurance of working w/in our designated budget for the ENTIRE project soup-to-nuts. Cowen misrepresented himself from beginning to end. HE agreed to OUR budget, insisting that “the ENTIRE project cost was attainable” & proceeded to convince us to submit our $2,500 check to “perform the next phase which involved detailed measurements” (he missed key measurements) & “a 3D presentation w/Virtual Reality goggles. We repeatedly reminded him of our strict budget & he assured us“as long as you choose stock items & do not pick a $10,000 tub, this would proceed without any issues”.All stated in the presence of us & our 30-year-old daughter who also had inquiries about the work & was satisfied that we were all in agreement. He then talked up his "favorite materials"(porcelain sheets), & standard fixtures, etc. FF 1 week, we arrived at his “showroom”(a disheveled room of outdated, strewn materials). He presented a basic crude “3D” outdated desktop computer-based depiction of the proposed finished project. This “program had “bugs & wasn’t working right”.There was NO VR presentation with goggles as promised. He finally showed us his partial proposal-the recommended porcelain sheets ended up costing the majority of our total project budget! He then pressed us for ANOTHER check as “it's on sale until the end of the week & you need to put the order in today”.We were mystified to say the least.“How can you agree to a budget & propose exorbitantly priced materials, knowing it would eat up most of the total budget?” we asked. He then socked us with labor costs which also amount to our TOTAL budgeted project cost! When asked how much the total cost would be, the number was OVER 2X what was agreed-upon!We reiterated our prior conversations & Cowen recommended that WE “buy (our) own tile, fixtures, etc, but they would not be warrantied” by him! He had NO OTHER MATERIALS/options that he could supply to us.After picking up our jaws from the floor, we asked how this could have happened,he stated “That's how much it costs these days! Labor alone is expensive!!”WHY DID HE NOT TELL US THIS FROM THE BEGINNING? DOES HE REALLY NEED THE $2,500 THAT BADLY? To date, we have NO designs/plans and NO comprehensive, COMPLETE proposal in accordance with our agreed-upon budget. In good faith,we told him to “keep $500" for his time, but "return $2,000" to us & we would not proceed with further action on our part. A “lesson learned” (not to trust people like him). This is a classic case of “Bait and Switch”.He countered with threats of legal action if we gave him a bad review that would “tarnish” his reputation.Above is ALL true. We stand by it."
