Mr. Thurber came a early, started quickly and proceeded to identify all corners of my property, and provided additional stakes along along both neighbors' property lines to ensure proper fence placement.The most important part of his service was somewhat more intangible; He explained how the various parts of Virginia land surveying law worked, which went greatly to explain how a previous surveyor performed a property survey as part of our 2014 home purchase but wouldn't tell us where the borders of our property were, without an enormous additional fee. Mr. Thurber was truly a professional. I would have written this rating sooner but I was busy telling the neighbors how outstanding Mr. Thurber was, and of course, explaining to them why the common property borders are different than the running fence line. If there were an A++ rating he would have earned it."

"NOVA Surveys saved the day! Found out from our contractor six calendar days before renovations were to begin that he needed a plat to obtain the necessary building permits. Unfortunately, the only one that we had was extremely dated, and clearly marked as not to be used to obtain a permit. Mad scramble to find a surveyor who could turn around a survey and plat quickly so as not to delay the renovation and subsequent listing for sale of our property. Tom responded to my email request for a quote within 5 hours of my initial email, and had a surveyor on the property the next day. Two days later, I had a pdf of a new plat in hand to share with our contractor. "This company was recommended to me by a title co. to survey my property in Arlington, VA.  I was quoted $350 for plat survey and $300 to mark the corners for a total of $650.  I was hesitant about the corner marking, but the guy from CRES told me $300 was a discounted rate for marking the corners, and that if I came back later to have it done separately, it would cost more.  I've never had a survey done and know little about them, but the whole discount for marking the corners thing sounded like a "hard sell".  it spurred me to go to Angie's List and contact a highly rated surveyor.  I was quoted $350 total for both the plat survey and the corner marking and went on to have a great transaction with that provider who was professional and friendly.  The "F" rating for price is obvious, and the "C" rating for professionalism is for the b.s. "discount" on the corner marking."
